This week saw the much-heralded and somewhat alarming sight of the Investment Summit, with the Prime Minister and Finance Minister desperately hawking our country to the highest bidder in the hope that billionaires might decide to park their cash here in these turbulent times.
We don’t know exactly what terms they were offering, as even the media weren’t allowed in to observe the great Kiwi sell-off. Mmm, how’s that transparency, New Zealand?

Our leaders, or local ATLAS reps, begging billionaires to buy us for some short-term economic gain and, importantly, some positive news to share that doesn’t make it look as though they drove the economy off a cliff with their austerity measures and that all their claims of being sound economic managers were utter bollocks.
More than one person has questioned whether Luxon is the right person to sell our country, given that he can’t seem to sell himself. The man himself appeared outwardly oblivious. After a poor showing in the polls, he even suggested that people should wait until next year, 2026, to judge him. Good luck with that, buddy.
If you point out to people how much better things were under the last government before all these cuts, they’ll tell you that Labour was spending too much money—more than we could afford—that they were irresponsible, and we were living beyond our means.
To which I would say, “Cool story, bro.” That’s nice and all, but this government is spending more than the last one, so where does that leave your logic?
