I thought Luxaflake betrayed his attitude on TV3 News last night in a segment on employment and jobs, where he commented.............that more people were getting out and looking for work (that isn't there) and saying that that was a good thing..............from him who doesn't need a job...........had my blood boiling. More bashing of the not so entitled or sorted. He is soooooooooo out of touch he is floating in his own universe.................the line needs to be cut.
Best performing PM, yeah right! He will believe anything his party tells him as long as he gets to swan around playing at being a Prime Minister. Meanwhile the dirty work is done by all his minions. This includes keeping unemployment at a very high rate to drive wages down. Businesses do not want wages increasing. Poor form on all accounts.
and promising work visas for thousands more, even whilst our unemployment is so high, so wages will continue to fall. He is the ultimate neoliberalist advocate - a low wage economy that delivers higher profit for the wealthy. He is promoting a class society.

I was also pleased to see Chippy have a go at the bloke who seems to think he’s still running an airline. Maybe he just misses playing with planes? (Apparently he wasn’t very good at it the last time he tried, either).
It was interesting to watch Winston tie himself in knots trying to decide whether he was Minister for Foreign Affairs or leader of NZF when he made disparaging remarks about Chinese people and their worth in NZ politics. Either way, he’s still just as bigoted as ever. It all makes for some very interesting entertainment during the day.

Having just read that unemployment across our country is the worst in 15 years,( which, by the way is not the fault of the”the previous government”), I have a few questions to ask the current administration about future employment opportunities. We’re told repeatedly that they will provide over 200,000 jobs over the next few years, so my questions are..
Where are these jobs coming from?
How long will these jobs last for those fortunate enough to secure one? Do any of these jobs have potential for a lifetime career?
How many projects have been signed off for construction, where, when and at what cost to the cost of power and ecological sustainability? Is the ink dry yet on any of these contracts?
The reason I, and no doubt many others, ask these questions is because at the moment all we have to go on seem to be coalition pipe dreams and promises which have very little credibility or belief, given the number of failures so far, with any confidence that this will change anytime soon.
Agreed it is certainly a WTF moment among many this year for both Luxon and the Government. The number of young people unemployed or under utilized is simply abysmal!
TBH I'm not longer sure Labour's small target approach is working. They are stuck in their neoliberal frame. Here's hoping we get all of their policies shortly so that we can mobilize people and get them out to vote. The clock is ticking.

My issue is the way they are talking about "funding" as an example this statement from one of the health policies "Funded by a 28% tax on the profit made after 1 July 2027 when a commercial or residential property is sold (excluding the family home and farms)". This statement and the others like it use the neoliberal frame "funded by tax".
In MMT (Modern Monetary Theory) framing, tax is not used to fund government spending. Because a sovereign government issues its own currency, it spends first by creating money. My understanding is Government is free to spend what it chooses on policies like health as long as there is capacity in the system to make use the funds thereby not creating inflation with too much money chasing scarce resources. In MMT framing tax has a different purpose, it is not about funding the things that Government wants to spend resources on.
In my reading to date I can't find one political party looking to swap out the neoliberal frame for something else.
As mentioned by Bernard Hickey, Ganesh R Ahirao and others there are other options readily available, there needs to be the political will to change.

I see my local MP campaigning for better staffing at Waitakere Hospital, with public meetings. I see Labour MPs in the House day after day holding the government to account. I see policies that are arriving on their website. I see Labour members energised at fundraiser events, raffles, cottage meetings and on the phones and doorsteps. I see them out there, enrolling thousands of people to vote. I see them engaged in the policy process, which is a democratic process driven by members. There will be more announcements and a manifesto soon.
This morning I had the absolute honour and privilege of meeting and having awesome meaningful kōrero about a whole range of issues with the Labour candidate for Te Tai Tonga, Mananui Ramsden, so I definitely know that the Labour Party candidates make themselves fully available for those out in their communities.
💯% Even if we aren't a Labour "supporter" or Greens "supporter" etc etc, those who care and want to be informed should check out the various party websites or follow on Facebook or wherever, so we can side-step MSM as a source, because unfortunately the CHOICES they make about who & what to report on rely on bias & priorities that aren't always fair & balanced 🙇

Unfortunately for Aotearoa the results of this continue to unfold while too many ignore the fall out for those least able to cope. That Roy Morgan shows this govt still with a good chance of another term is unreal.
🤔 It has always been the case that "young people" need training programmes etc to get onto the employment ladder, but especially when times are tough. It has been pointed out that there are many over 65's working & being paid superannuation as well, & quite apart from many genuinely unable to live on just super, employers like taking on someone who is already trained & fully contributing to their bottom line from almost day one 🤷 Training programmes & support have been proven to encourage employers to take on younger workers for this reason.
As for Mr "Wealthy & Sorted" - obviously if the PM is at ANY event & a genuine emergency happens where he needs to get somewhere to do his actual job as PM, then use of Air Force helis or planes might be justified. BUT a National Party event & a private funeral don't qualify in any measure, and the Air Force have ALWAYS managed to keep their pilots up to date & with sufficient flying time in the past. He obviously knows they help out during natural disasters, which lately have given them plenty of flying time (!), plus the helis are often used in Search & Rescue missions for hunters, trampers, day walkers, boating incidents etc etc. AND if they REALLY need more flying time, I'm sure there are community benefit trips like taking young unemployed into areas where they can, I dunno, help with disaster cleanup, pest eradication (animal & vegetation), plus rural projects to protect & cleanup waterways etc etc etc etc
The "Jobs for Nature" projects started during COVID prove there is society beneficial work in abundance, plus organisers now experienced in running them 💪 So win-win-win = Air Force flying hours + young people getting work experience + society beneficial outcomes all around 👍
