Six o’clock, I’m goin’ down
The coffee’s hot and the toast is brown
Hey street sweeper, clear my way
Sweetheart breakfast, the best in town

This morning, TVNZ’s Breakfast focused on the upcoming “Mega-Strike” and the cost of living, with inflation set to rise.

The Union Leader.

First up was CTU President Richard Wagstaff with Wendy Petrie, who preceded her interview by mentioning Judith Collins’ open letter, which claimed the strikes were politically motivated, “unfair and unwarranted”.

Curiously, the same way that I would describe the attacks by this government on the public sector.

Petrie asked for a reaction to the letter, and Wagstaff described it as “a lame attempt to divide, to distract, and to shift the blame for something that is of the government’s making”.

He described a long period of negotiation in which the government has failed to table an offer that addresses chronic under-resourcing and doesn’t expect workers to effectively take a pay cut for years to come.
