Apparently American defence agencies have admitted that aliens have been walking amongst us for ages. When I look around the world at some of the utterly incompetent fools in charge it's difficult not to join this conspiracy gang. Seymour has to be an alien. There is nothing about this man that resembles any likeness to human traits. The very best compliment would be to conceed he suffers from extreme autism and, notwithstanding he is our defacto PM, should be encouraged to play with his toys on his own. The problem as presented is the more attention David receives the more bizarre his behaviour becomes. Our political landscape is littered with individuals whose minds and critical faculties are still at school, or firmly embedded in the fairy story of biblical rhetoric. Either way the public is being poorly served. As a retired school teacher, if I had behaved or spoken to students or colleagues the way Seymour, Luxon and Peters consistently demonstrate, I would most certainly have been sacked for inappropriate behaviour or conduct likely to bring teaching into disrepute. I admire your ability to remain in the thick of such aboherent behaviour abd remain as optimistic as you do!

I fear that Seymour playing with his toy on his own may be part of the problem, not the cure

Jeremy Coleman's avatar

I’m beginning to think that BVV is actually Seymour’s toy. Not in a carnal sense, that doesn’t bear thinking about, but in an AI robot let loose on an unsuspecting public. She, (or it), is always the one to deliver the bad news, with not a single emotion or feeling showing through. Not a smidgen.

The thing that convinces me more than anything is that she called Hosking a reliable source of information. It didn’t even register when the House burst out laughing. A human being would have been embarrassed, but robots can’t think for themselves and only deliver what they are programmed to do: mostly the stuff no human would ever utter. As we are all aware,AI is anything but perfect. If BVV is indeed an android, there’s a lot more homework to be done.

Well written Nick...and a bouquet for you for shining such a clear light on this absolute farce of a government. It's like a horror show!

Nick Rockel's avatar

Thanks Mary. 🙂

Judith Paulin's avatar

My sentiments entirely - Go Nick!!

B Insull's avatar

“he enables the neoliberal policies of ACT to be implemented, despite 92% of the population not voting for them.”

Yes yes yes. This has been true since Luxon formed the coalition .

Judith Paulin's avatar

Indeed it has! Why are we still paying them handsomely. What a pity politicians aren’t paid on their achievements instead of their destructions.

Kirsty's avatar

Yep laziness and vanity characterise our PM in exile 🙄 And, like you I'm really pissed off by the paid-off media to ignore RSB and throw irrelevant, spiteful dead cats on the table attacking brown women as is their usual despicable tactics.

David Rees's avatar

Well said as always Nick, I increasingly feel like I'm living through a horror version of Gliding On and other similar satirical shows. The deafening silence from our complicit MSM is shameful and then they get all hysterical and defensive when challenged on their lopsided political coverage. As for Seymour's nuclear comments, I should buy him the just released book Eyes of Fire The Last Voyage and Legacy of the Rainbow Warrior by David Robie. The nuclear history in the Pacific by the defenders of the free world ie US is horrific and should be shouted from the rooftops. There's a great piece in The NZ Standard on this by the way:

https://thestandard.org.nz/the-rainbow-warrior-1985-2025-part-2-nuclear-refugees-in-the-pacific-the-evacuation-of-rongelap/.

It was great to see David Robie on the news last night; he's a lovely man, and I had the pleasure of meeting him in person a few months ago. He's been a great supporter of this newsletter.

wikitoria's avatar

Reading your piece from Robie. OMG!

Sober reading.

I did not know this. Thanks for posting the link. Absolutely abhorrent 😓🤬

Marlene's avatar

Excellent article, Nick you've summed it up perfectly. I'll add that Luxon is bone lazy, Willis is just totally incompetent and wee Davy is a spoilt fourth former, who attacks the person because he doesn't have the intelligence or maturity to acknowledge their expertise.

Miramartian's avatar

That’s a hell of a column Nick, you should be proud. Consistently good content and writing. Perhaps consider turning your attention to the shite fight that is the Wellington mayoral race. The unhinged Ray Chung has had a fever dream about Tory Whanau and promptly blamed it on his neighbour in the re-telling. I’ve seen him speak at candidate meetings and he’s incapable of following a train of thought but very able in the dark arts of politics. God help us here in Welly.

Nick Rockel's avatar

Thanks very much. If you take a look at my Facebook page I’ve written a bit about Ray Chung this morning. Probably write something about local elections soon.

wikitoria's avatar

This writing is what I call 'Puku stirring' stuff! I felt every word, agreeing with you! Calling out those who need calling out! IMO, Luxon is the worst PM ever, and that's saying something!!! As for the Twerking Jerking Seymour! Ugh! Just to see his face popping up everywhere is a big 🤮. As mentioned by others, Jacinda was right in her brief summation of Seymour. Cripes, can't wait to see the back of him and his party.

Josephine's avatar

Morena Nick.

The first bouquet that I would dish out would be to you. You my friend always hit the nail right on the head. My other bouquets go to all those who have either done written submissions or in person against this bloody stupid bill and to Christopher Luxon who never seems to be here unless it's for photo ops or for his on political and personal gain. You are right when you say he's lazy. He's also a bloody weak coward who likes to think that he knows what he's doing, but as we all know, he knows jack shit.(Apologies to all those who are named Jack.) I mean, surely he would know that if there wax overwhelming opposition to the RSB and he continued to support it, then he would be committing political suicide.

Have a great day Nick. Stay dry and warm up there in Tamaki Makaurau.

A bouquet to these young women giving a verbal presentation- a clear logical condemnation of the RSB.

Annie Blackwell's avatar

It is revealed that all our efforts vs RSB were a waste of time. National pre-agreed with ACT to pass RSB legislation and, with Luxton at its head, no quality control has been applied to said agreement. ...

Yes, I'm in a foul mood this morning after reading about that, followed by an article about NIMBI resistance to a solar farm in Huranui. Really? Sod it! We're a pathetic lot, what's left of us in this country. Did the brain drain leave only a bunch of aliens here?!

Nick Rockel's avatar

Maybe the neighbours of that farm would prefer one of Seymour's Nuclear Power Plants next door?

Cindy's avatar

🤔 1) It is my understanding that they need the votes of NZ First as well, and a) they did not commit to the final passing and b) as every previous coalition partner can attest they will break any agreement if they see it will be beneficial to themselves 🤷

2) It defangs the argument against Labour going into the election about wasting money by promising to throw out the RSB & all the spiderwebs it has created (Board Members fees 😱) as members of the Aotearoa communities up & down the motu, from all walks of life & all levels of experience in various aspects, have emphatically & categorically said loud & clear that they DO NOT WANT THE RSB

3) There has arisen some excellent korero about what could/SHOULD be done to improve the standard of regulation using current tools - nothing is perfect & things can evolve over time - the next govt can take advantage if they want to tweak things

Annie Blackwell's avatar

Pointed out by Bernard Hickey - it on RNZ

Annie Blackwell's avatar

Well, I can only hope, not. But we must wait and see...

Mac Stevenson's avatar

Well said Nick. The MSM keep on demonstrating that clicks not holding the powerful to account is sadly their role. How else to explain how this govt continues to be allowed to perform as badly as it does without question. Instead our pathetic PM and his sidekicks receive unjustifiable positive coverage on a daily basis. How best to counter this must be a priority for the opposition bloc as election 2026 gets closer.

Darien Fenton's avatar

So the select committee hearings on the RSB are over. What a farce. And if anyone had any doubt they just need to see that the Atlas NZ Initiative fronted by Bryce Wilkinson and Eric Crampton got four times the time that other submitters like the esteemed Prof Kelsey and Sir Geoffrey Palmer, and Annette Sykes to name a few were given. Meanwhile, just to keep the alien theme, the COVID 19 re-enquiry carries on with the dangerous anti vax presenters like Voices for Freedom. While I am at it, can we please also turn our guns on the aliens in NZ First. They will be crowing at out polling ACT and the Greens in latest Curia poll. Why? Becos they're not National or ACT whose voters are clearly worried, but can't bring themselves to support Labour, Greens or TPM. If there ever was a cult, it is NZ First.

Vivi Kent's avatar

Darien - you may find this new pre-print article interesting. Written by Luke Oldfield et al. This is the abstract:

The 2023 New Zealand general election saw the return of the New Zealand First party to Parliament, about 12 months after the nation's health-focused response to the COVID-19 pandemic had begun winding down. Despite New Zealand First being part of the Labour-led government that managed the initial COVID-19 response, Peters in 2022 began courting interest from the 'freedom' movement (an amorphous constituency of voters who opposed COVID-19 vaccine mandates and the broader pandemic response). This paper uses data from the 2023 New Zealand Election Study (NZES) to determine whether attempts to garner support from the freedom movement might have helped propel New Zealand First over the 5% party vote representation threshold and subsequently back into Parliament and government. This paper finds a statistically significant association between respondents who said they 'liked' New Zealand First and did not receive the COVID-19 vaccine, along respondents who 'liked' New Zealand First lacking trust in the media and scientific community. It might be that the courting of voters from outside of the mainstream medical community will aid NZ First as it seeks representation in future election cycles.

I was shocked and horrified to see the latest poll results. I know that it was a Taxpayer poll which to my mind is dodgy, however it still gave me a fright. More and more appear to be speaking out about this coalition so where are these people who are supporting this bunch of idiots. By all accounts we are in for a second term of totally abysmal leadership. Please no!

Brian Milham's avatar

well written . We have to stop calling Luxon - Prime Minister.. he is acting as a C.E.O. with responsibility . As you said " scared of Seymour'

Gloria Sharp's avatar

Loved it thanks Nick. You said it again.

There was a woman on Checkpoint last night, former chair of Fonterra, I believe, who blamed the price of butter on all kinds of things that ACT voters don't like, such as 'the climate agenda' and COVID (which is, of course, code for Jacinda). She also tried to convince her listeners that paying a lot for butter didn't matter because the economy was benefiting from high butter prices.

Diana Coleman's avatar

No wonder we’re in such a mess when the people running government and large corporations think like this.

Gavin Scoble's avatar

Excellent piece of writing Nick. " "At first, I thought he was hiding, but lately I’m starting to wonder if Christopher might just be a bit lazy."

I'm sure that's a turn of phrase and you haven't just noticed. Luxon has been lazy since he became PM. When he didn't give himself any portfolios I briefly wondered if he was going to be an across everything sort of PM ready to give knowledgeable and insightful responses to questions about a wide range of issues. But nah, he's not that sort of guy, he's just a lazy poser.

As for Seymour it's good he's being called out for what he is, an enemy of the people. As for his latest assault on the fabric of Aotearoa, we have to work for a change of government so it can be be immediately repealed.

Brickbat? Writing as I am hunkered down under another Red weather warning in Tasman and another State of Emergency, one should go the way of all those in the CoC who have weakened or killed off different components of our already insufficient response to climate change.

Nick Rockel's avatar

Thinking of those in Tasman, gosh, you guys have had some weather lately. I seem to recall that one of the first things this government did was abandon the Climate Change Recovery Fund, no doubt deemed too woke, that was there under Chippy.

Gavin Scoble's avatar

We're really being hammered again Nick. Where I live is now cut off from Richmond/Nelson again. Water levels are rising, and because the ground is so sodden trees are falling across the roads. According to our local firefighters two vehicles have been hit by falling trees, thankfully without injury.

Authorities are advising people in areas who evacuated last time to go now as the highest river levels will be at night time.

These events are happening with accelerating frequency and we have to come together to somehow put pressure on for a much stronger response from central government. Local government and their ratepayers can't carry the load alone.

Tasman roading infrastructure took a huge hit two weeks ago and the district council and it's contractors are going a great job restoring access, sometimes with temporary fixes that will need to be done properly later.

Some roads are still closed from last time and others are closing again.

We are dealing with climate collapse (it's not change) with incompetent extremists at the helm. God (or someone/something) help us.

Cindy's avatar

🤔 Remember when the last Budget cut the margin of unallocated money that is usually kept for unplanned events of one kind or another (cough cough A GLOBAL PANDEMIC cough cough...) ⁉️ Given their overall PPP (P***PoorPlanning) todate, I would venture that their contingency funds for weather disasters is probably bare minimum and needing topped up from SOMEWHERE anytime soon 🤷 Local Councils can't do it all, especially with already having extra costs piled on by this govt 💩🤡

Gavin Scoble's avatar

Though I guess I'm just venting. A meaningful response to the effects of climate collapse we're repeatedly seeing now is not going to come from the current government. As we here know, we need a new one, a government for the people.

Gavin Scoble's avatar

Big chunks of Tasman have lost power and Riwaka/Kaiteriteri have lost water supplies. This is bad. But Mitchell will flick us another 100k so it's all good. Somehow we have power to our rural cellular tower. Small blessings.
