And another pitch shatters
Another little bit gets lost
Tell me what else really matters
Oh, such a cost

Like pebbles on a beach
Kicked around, displaced by feet
Oh, like broken stones
They're all trying to get home

Song by Paul Weller

Does it feel as though your country has been hijacked? That terrible people have taken the wheel, revealing their true selves to all who care to look?

Not tinkering as promised, to hold back the rising tide of decency and understanding and replace it with self-interest and fear. That’s what we expected, what it said on the box - even if a lot of us took the time to read the fine print and shouted to the others that it was toxic. Not fit for humans.

No, this is not a temporary holding back of history but a great tidal wave of neoliberalism. Petty-minded loathing is sweeping all before it, washing away togetherness, cooperation, and, most of all, kindness. Scorching our society so that nothing will grow in the infertile remains for decades to come? That’s what they want.
