I would not be just a nuffin'
My head all full of stuffin'
My heart all full of pain
I would dance and be merry
Life would be a ding-a-derry
If I only had a brain
Songwriters: Harold Arlen / Yip Harburg
Not much happens in the world of politics on a Monday. I mentioned that recently in a newsletter, and folks suggested it might be a good day to take off and recharge the brain, as seven newsletters a week isn’t really sustainable over the long haul.
So, this is not a newsletter, and I’m not sitting in front of my computer reading your comments. Depending on when you read it, and there could be a wide timeframe of opportunity, I’m probably sitting in traffic on Lake Road on the way to see my folks. 2014
Three days prior, on the 20th, John Key had been elected for a third term by a large margin following a vicious campaign—and that was just the Herald's attacks on David Cunliffe. On the day in question, I made a single post: this video from John Oliver, in which John Key demonstrates that turning up to answer questions isn’t always the best course of action.
By coincidence your fellow reader, and my dear long time family friend, Maureen is in New York. There were comical scenes last week when I was in Rotorua, I gave her a call to catch up for a cuppa and found she was at the airport and had a long wait. No worry said Fi and I, we’ll come and join you for for a chat to fill in the time. Fortunately we realised right at the end of the call that she was in fact at the Auckland Airport and I was about to try and meet her in the rather more modest departures section of the Rotorua Airport.
Maureen and her granddaughter Lola managed to get in yesterday as the last two on standby for the filming of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Which made me so happy when I read it, hope it was a lot of fun.
