Can't we talk about anything else but love?
Love that launched a thousand ships
Please! Let's talk about anything else but love
Love that causes war and famine
Can't we speak about real estate?
Love of wife
Watergate?
Love of children!
Seasonal fluctuations in the prime interest rate?
Love of chocolate, you must love chocolate, everybody loves chocolate, say you do
Can't we talk about anything else but…
“Let's Not Talk About Anything Else But Love”, a song by Kevin Chamberlin, Nathan Lane, and Terrence Mann.
Good morning, all you lovely people, this Saturday Morning of Labour Weekend. I hope you’re relaxing and enjoying some of the many benefits we all enjoy thanks to the Labour movement.
I contemplated taking a day off today or perhaps writing some satirical nonsense, something on obscurities or about David Seymour’s school dinners. With his different flavours of gruel and the dodgy operator, he has resorted to providing our children with the lowest-quality “food” possible.
But I really like the interactive ones, so today, I thought we could have a chat. You’re welcome to ask questions and answer them, tell us a story, or just talk about anything you’d like.
Some suggestions if leaving it so open-ended feels a bit daunting…
Given that it is Labour weekend, you could perhaps tell us why you vote the way you do, whoever it is for. What were the events or situations, the family history or whatever it might be that made you choose to support the party you support?
You don’t have to say who it is if you prefer not to, but there are no wrong answers here - you’re very much among friends.
Or maybe you’d like to discuss what you’re up to this Labour Weekend. Getting the garden or the house in order, relaxing, or going away. Do you have any traditions at this time of the year?
You’re most welcome to ask political questions or things about sports - so many positive stories there lately. C’mon, the Black Caps! Maybe there is a movie or TV series you’ve seen that you’d like to recommend to others? Or one you suggest we avoid. 😂
So there you go, have your say, ask away, and if there is a question asked that you have a view on, jump right in.
The end song is called “Let's not talk about anything else but love,” but you can even talk about that if you want to, and why not? Who doesn’t like love? You can even speculate on that if you’d like.
Enough blathering from me. I’ll see you in the comments. You need to be a paid subscriber to participate; you’re welcome to take advantage of my special, which gives you 20% off and runs until Tuesday if you’d like. 🙂

"A positive Labour weekend. This week Chippy was on fire; Luxon was out of touch, Winston lost the plot, and as for Seymour..."
Peters went full-on batshit this week with the absurdity of his allegations against Ayesha Verrall to distract from Casey Costello. I've been impressed by Verrall this year. I knew she was smart and caring, but I didn't appreciate how fierce she could be. No wonder Winston is afraid.
As for Chippy. I saw that photo of him sitting on a bench in Dunedin that was circulating last night, and I thought - you've had a big week, fella. Best I can remember since the election. It probably helps that the government is in such disarray, with Luxon's leadership looking sillier by the day.
The best you can say for Luxon is he kept his hands to himself when he met the King.
This weekend, Mrs Rockel and I are partially empty nesters. Thea has been in Palmerston North for PACANZ—Performing Arts Competitions Association of New Zealand, essentially dance nationals. This is her last comp after many years, and her troop came third on the podium last night.
Our youngest, Matty, went to Taupo with friends yesterday. They're all meeting there and staying in AirBnBs.
Their dance school has a new video on the homepage that they feature in. You can see Matty in the middle early on, the male in the centre of things. Thea is a little harder to spot but walks through the centre to the front early on. It's here if you're interested in taking a look: https://www.danza.co.nz/
We'll be just relaxing, Fi has gardening and sewing intentions and I'm planning to do bugger all. I'll write one more over the long weekend, then back on Tuesday.
