This is no disrespect to you or your newsletters, but today I'm doing my best to stay away from politics.
I'm going to focus on remembering the past and those that have passed, acknowledging the present and enjoying this time with those that I love and looking towards a more prosperous future.
One political thing I will say today is that, I mihi to Dame Jacinda Ardern and the Labour government who allowed us to celebrate this special time of year with our loved ones.
Yes, another thing we have to thank them for. Good call on staying away from politics; I'll probably do the same, although it's hard to look away from international events at the moment. 🙂
My thoughts for today as well. Arohanui Jacinda, and to you Nick as your clever interpretations of current events keeps us connected. Enjoy the gift of this day.

Wishing everybody a joyful Matariki. We started a tradition a few years ago of having a kiwi-themed dinner at our daughter's. It's hosted by our 7 year old grandson who welcomes us all and always sings us a song. We were listening to some NZ music this morning and stumbled upon Blam Blam Blam's No Depression in New Zealand - released in 1992 and totally relevant to today
Yes it is our best public holiday Nick. It speaks to me because it says Aotearoa. It should be fine where we are so we'll be sitting beside the fire pit tonight eating roast veges off the barbie with Matariki stars hung up remembering others. Looked for the constellation at dawn today but no joy. Maybe tomorrow.
Morena Nick, and all the rest of you. A lovely sunny day ( so far, fingers crossed), to celebrate an event which took too long to be acknowledged, (which probably sounds great coming from an Aussie whose country still barely recognises its own indigenous people’s heritage, 200 years on).

A slightly political thing, but a good one, with the LA Dodgers denying entry into their stadium by Trump’s ICE thugs. They deny they were there despite plenty of evidence to the contrary.

Like you Nick Matariki is my current favourite public holiday. I plan to spend time reflecting. It has felt like a relief to have a good reason to not focus on politics. I have listened to RNZ this morning and really enjoyed hearing different perspectives on Matariki from around the motu.
