Much consternation in this household after hearing that Art History might be removed from the senior curriculum. Mr 20 even wrote to the minister to tell them how much it meant to them, first time I can recall that. With the uncertain vocational future for young people Art History seems like a great way to teach analytical skills to those who prefer to learn more visually. Great information. I spent many hours in European galleries, wishing I understood more about Art History. Why should we be afraid to expose people to knowledge?
Not everything needs to be vocational; critical thinking, analytical skills, and learning history are also valuable, even if it's hard to put a dollar on them.
I can see TOTAL ass Mike Hostile in the position of between cheeks where his tongue dwells - not a pretty thought but a true one of a ‘man’ (?) who pollutes the air waves with ultracrepidarian cacophony!
Yes, YES and more Yes - The best those with political power can come up with are simple, quick solutions for complex issues! Simple solutions for simple minds, from simple minds. Only we - the people can change that system that is imposed on us ALL. The people have the power, not the rich and sorted - we need to wield that power by withholding our support of the "system" that imposes self-interest and money as the sole dominator for the needs of people.
If we all withdraw total support for a day - escalating by a day over time, can we force a election due to No-Confidence! Non-violent, inclusive, and spectacular.
I remember the 1970's with great wistfulness, back when if the government of the day (National OR Labour, it did not matter) proposed to do something 'beyond the pale' the Union of Government Workers would just threaten to strike for a day, which of course would bring the whole country to a standstill...so it hardly ever had to happen...the government of the day would quietly change it's collective mind. This was back when NZ had a high standing, was respected by all others in the world.
And that is exactly what we should do again! Every little thing that happens in our world of the big world is due to people doing the wrong thing, not nature, but people!
A further comment about the possible removal of Art history from the curriculum. My son did this plus classics and history at high school and got himself a job at the National Portrait Gallery in London as a manager at the age of 23, after also studying these subjects at Uni. Not useless subjects at all. After his oe of 9 years, he came back and did a teaching degree for a year and taught social studies and history off the back of these subjects.
Good article thanks Nick. What a waste of space Hosking is, and Stanford is not far behind him. I won't make the march tomorrow but fully support the initiative. And as for the prospect of removing Art History (and Outdoor Education) from the senior curriculum this simply shows, amongst other things, what a bunch of philistines this horrible government is.
We here in Aotearoa are drowning in political bullshit and the government showing no action for the support of Palestine and the cessation of the public genocide by Israel makes it clear what they are committed to for every day kiwis. Nothing will detract them from their mysoginistic agenda
I hear them and their mantra “burn baby burn” BURN NZ to the ground
"Before we begin, please keep in mind that any mock criticisms of Labour in this newsletter are with tongue firmly in cheek.
A singular cheek, that is, not between cheeks, which is where Mike Hosking keeps his tongue while discussing the National Party…" brilliant intro, Nick!!
Sigh! Every morning I wake up and think of Dorothy Parker's immortal quote "What fresh hell is this?" I suspect that Mike has never been a member of a union and doesn't understand how they work. You know, democracy and all.

I'm sure you're very proud of that young man.
Chloe is so good. And the bias of Brownlee is so obvious. Thank you for posting that video,
If you're planning to march tomorrow, there is a change in the route due to the weather. It is pretty yuck out there.

Love, love, love Chloe 🌸🌸🌸🌸
Yeah, Mike is Aotearoa's Fox News Channel manifested in one (ultracrepidarian?!..wow!) human....

Mike the low life why anyone would listen to that moronic blowhard is beyond me. Chloe makes him look like a child just out of kindy.
Go well supporting Palestine tomorrow. My spirit is with you - and them.

...and agricultural studies...
I'd love for Mr Hosking's next contract negotiation with NZME Radio to go:
"We noted your reference to Teacher's pay being 'not a bad deal' and we're happy to offer you the same"
Thanks Nick, enjoyed the bit about where Mike's tongue is!
Hear, hear....!
