Just watched the Trick and Treaty doco.... globalist billionaires funding their own interests. And of course the thing blocking the general plunder of minerals in NZ is ....yes you guessed it.... the Treaty of Waitangi which protects public and Maori land. So this referendum business is just the beginning it would seem. They sure did the business on Australia just to stop indigenous advice to Parliament ffs......!
Precisely correct. That is what the smirk was all about: "I know something that none of you know, and I'm laughing all the way to the bank because of it". A truly despicable human being, spawned and groomed for the role by the original Mr. Grabaseat, who was also sponsored by overseas corporate interests....John Key.
By the way, I just did a bit of research: Luxon and Seymour spent their recent years working together in Eastern Canada for private industry think tanks, run by companies like Unilever Canada, originally closely connected/sprung from mergers between the extremely corrupt early 20th Century remains of old British and Dutch East India companies, making things like soap, pharmaceuticals, beauty products, ice-cream, potato chips, etc. In short, dumb Kiwis who don't think they are working hand in glove together, with Luxon playing the part of the amiable nice guy/bit of a buffoon, and don't believe that these two commercially trained yes-men don't have a hidden agenda, are not planning to take NZ down an ideological one-track nightmare closely resembling recent developments in Australia, are fuckwits, and deserve the lousy hands they are going to get dealt to them. Speaking as an immigrant ex-Canadian, I am not at all surprised at the smoothness of the Luxon/Seymour team's remarkably sudden appearance in NZ politics, because John Key also started out merely by gaining a Batchelor of Commerce, and totally hoodwinked this country during his three terms as PM; he was another Eastern North American flunkey/commercial banking/foreign exchange/think-tank 'yes-man' deeply ensconced in the financial take over by Bank of America that was organized as the '2008 Crash', being based at the time with Merrill Lynch in New York.
I can remember GOP John McCain voting against his party to support Obamacare. A true statesman who was mocked by Trump who refused to recognise him as a hero as he was imprisoned and tortured. Trumps uncouth tactics rallied the radicals and so his leadership was entrenched. NZ needs to rally now to support Māori and te Titiri just like Ann Salmond writes today. Hooton also writes that the coalition government is using it as a political stunt!
No I don’t think it is a good thing! I think it is criminally insane! How can we Kiwis be so unintelligent as to admire America in any way? They show all the symptoms of political insanity - why would we want to emulate them? Why would we want to be “on their side”?
One of the things that always got me about America is the death penalty. Awful news from Alabama today where they executed a guy using a "new" method and he took 22 minutes to die. It is sick.
Yes I saw that horrible news. One of the officials saying that the reason it took so long is that the person receiving the poison gas held his breath - FFS!
I agree with you about the death penalty, and the fact that the USA is the only modern, supposedly liberal democracy that still has it. Of course some states have done away with the death penalty.Nobody had been executed under Federal Law since the early 200s, but Trump changed that. He is a lover of the death penalty. When he knew he might not win the 20/20election he had a group of Federal prisoners on death row, executed.Heis a morally bankrupt excuse for a human being.
You said it Nick, "big money subverting democratic elections". USA politics in NZ. All the mis/dis information that really became so obvious in the Protest in Parliament grounds 2022. that is when I began to become concerned about NZ's political future.
Yes- me too. And when Winston Peters strolled through that group estroying parliament grounds, and said he did not see the nasty, anti Jacinda comments including threats of violence, not to mention the noose hanging in a prominent place. He saw what he wanted to see-people he could possibly get to vote for him, and be his tool for getting back into power.
It is hard to comprehend that the most powerful (military wise ) country in the world is currently led by a President who clearly suffers from cognitive degeneration while his opponent, and soon to be next President, is a convicted criminal. This has come about because the oligarchs have chosen who they will fund and over time the two main parties have moved further and further right as a consequence. Clinton, Obama and particularly Biden promoted policies right of centre and ones that sought to enhance the wealth of those calling the shots. Military Industrial, Big Pharma, Wall Street Gas and Oil. Trump is but a consequence of this and it is scary to think he will probably be the last President elect of the USA as he certainly intends for there to be no more elections held once he is power. What is also obvious is that unless support for the Treaty of Waitangi is sustained Aotearoa will be in the same situation where the global funders of far right parties decide our future.
My first encounter with a real American was as a thirteen year old. My widowed mother could not drive so a friend arranged for us to be collected for a weekend celebration. Lo, a Ford Galaxie arrived and my eyes popped out of my head. Living in rural Suffolk in the UK, there were a number of American airbases close by. The Viet Nam war was in full rage and these American airbases supplied a rest-over for the airmen. At that time, the boxer Cassius Clay as he then was, toured the world fighting all the local heavyweight champions and had just fought our British boxer, Henry Cooper who knocked him to the canvas, the only time up to then. I was excited to meet an American and I asked him,
‘What do you think of Cassius Clay?’
‘He’s a negre.’
Our driver was from Louisiana.
That stuck with me as a thirteen year old. My next encounter was aged nineteen. Two American airmen and a local friend went to our local race track, Snetterton in Norfolk. We were marshaling so spent the day talking about the things teens do. At the end of the day over a beer or two, I asked my friend why Americans appeared so friendly, yet had such a problem with race. Martin Luther King had just been assassinated and riots were reported on the BBC frequently. My friend looked at the other American and then away into the distance. He was an American from Mexican stock. Our other friend was from Texas. Later that evening, my friend stayed with my family and before turning in, he said to me on my own,
‘England is a beautiful country and such good people. What you have to understand is that America is full of different races and colours but the white Americans, especially from the South think they are top dog and hate the blacks and browns like me. In the airforce, they keep quiet, they just don’t promote many of us. Not good enough see.’
So I started reading and soon realised that race is at the heart of Americas problems both then and now. The other problem America has is that it is ruled by greed and wealth.
My next encounter with a lot of Americans was when working at Ford Motor Co. I soon learned that if the Germans in Ford thought they were arrogant, they really had nothing on our American masters. Fords success in those days, 1970’s was because they were global and had tight financial controls. The products were reasonably reliable but uninspiring, company reps loved them!
The finance world was my next meeting when I worked as a contractor at Citigroup and Lehman Bros in the 90’s. The Americans who ran these operations were quite the most ruthless, cold hearted, narrow minded people imaginable. They just loved money and power.
Now I have two very dear friends, one from California and one from Georgia. They emigrated when it was obvious the orange turd would be elected. They are both white and deeply affected by what America has become. Long conversations confirmed my reactions to the Americans I had met along the way. White Americans, especially from the South tend not to be ‘touchie feely’ – they don’t tend to hug as many Europeans do. I’m talking about older ones really. Most keep their political allegiance of their family, GOP or Dems and don’t tend to change during their lifetimes. Political funding is regular for many.
So, what parallels do I see in NZ? Watch Luxon. He is pure corporate America. Can you imagine hugging him? His brand is surface, his real agenda well hidden. He will leave Seymour and Peters to be the front of ‘sillyness’ except folks, they are a part of the government. Many Kiwis will fall for the agenda. He’s one of us, they say to themselves. We might say the right things about Maori and Pacific Islanders but we all know they are not really one of us. Wealth and greed are this governments byline. Touch that and watch us really become hostile. We will act with impunity as inequality becomes worse.
Domestic politics is indoctrinated by outsiders from the right. The Atlas Network is already well established through the Taxpayers Union. Our foreign policies will be further inline with our American ‘friends’. I do wonder what China will think as they progress across the pacific?
This is why it's important for NZ to keep an eye on Amercan politics. We are only a few years behind with so many of its scary developments. Seymour = Trump clone. Minus the sexual proclivities of course.
WOW I guess that tribute to The Boss was also a gathering for the 'Dems" and their supporters.I enjoyed it very much and Bruce Springstein seemed to appreciate it. Michel Obama looked beautiful as ever ,dressed in lavender with some gorgeous jewellery enhancing her natural charm. That was a gathering of wealthy middle class ,slightly left leaning people. Then there is Trump, and the sort of gathering he inspires where he lies a lot, and plays GOD.
I fear that the track we are (back) on is heading in the same direction as the ‘mango melanoma’. I was amused that through the circus that was Trump’s presidency the MSM kept using the term ‘unprecedented’, will NZ media try out ‘unPrimeMinistered’?
“But they are beset by a political system that plays to the worst of that great country.” Yes Nick but I see it as important that paradoxically that “great country” created that political system.
The USA has given the world some good things, but it has also dominated so many aspects of culture in way that is undeserved and unhealthy. I believe it’s called hegemony.
They seem to believe their version of democracy is an example to others yet their own political system is corrupt with cronyism, gerrymandering and bought politicians.
Globally, again they position themselves as the defenders of democracy, yet the US has a track record of intervening in the politics of many countries, in many cases overthrowing legitimate regimes. I was given a copy (which I am yet to read) of William Blum’s "Killing Hope – US Military and CIA Interventions since WW2". It has 56 chapters and was only published in 2004. Quite a list.
I believe the USA cannot heal itself because of its schisms and its failed social and political systems. It is sliding into facism, or at least authoritarianism. If it didn’t enjoy such a pre-eminent position it would just be an interesting sideshow. But with Putin in charge in Russia and potentially Trump in power in the US we are sailing into very dark times.
From Street Level, many Americans are Terrified at the prospect of the return of this Nasty piece of Work. It's hard to fathom the changes that have brought Amerikkka to the tipping point as it is today.
I don't recognize the place anymore!
Around 40 years ago a small Group of Long Serving Neoconservative Politicians made a 2nd Manifest Destiny Pact with a Group of Zionist Dual National's that had Blackmailed their ways into the inner Circle of US Foreign Policy with the assistance of the MIC, that was directed by a Chap named Oliver North. The name will be familiar if you recall the Iran / Contra affair, or the Death Squads that killed their way through Central America & Colombia, supposedly in Nancy Reagans "War on Drugs - Just Say No thing" that Nixon actually started near the end of the Viet Nam War after his election in 1972.
This small Group of Hard Right Wing, Zionist & Dual Citizen Miscreants designed a new Operating Policy for the American Elitist Future, called PNAC (project for the new American 21st Century.
The Policy Document set a time line for Global Economic & Political Dominance, regardless of the Financial Costs. The Financials weren't considered because there was no intention to restore what America Broke in their Regime Change Push that swept through the Middle East, Asia & Europe.
George W Bush spilled the Beans inadvertently in his "You're either for us, or with the Terrorists" after 9/11. The War on Terrorism was the Launching Pad for the PNAC Document. The Speech was aimed at America's Neoliberal Capitalist Western Country's Allies as a signal to either sign on or pay the consequences of clinging to European Style Socialism.
PNAC is the upgraded version of Manifest Destiny & is the primary reason for the rise of the Military Industrial Complex. NZ's Nuclear Policy put Us on the outside of the Group of 5 - Eye's Global Surveillance Gathering Organisation. We've managed to avoid conflicts of Interest from our Remote Geographical position & more slight population, compared with our neighbour Australia. We pose No Geographical Advantage in America's Turn to the Asian Continent & future conflicts with the CCP.
Uncle Sam has allowed us some Freedoms in choosing our Trade Partners. That window is closing now as Uncle Sam has conscripted Australia & the Phillipines for the Launch Bases for the South China Sea & have progressed Construction on their newest Nuclear Bases.
Mr. Blinken's NZ visit last year was sending the NZ Government a clear message that we have our Eggs stored in the wrong Basket & need to make a choice.
Shortly after the Election & Coalition agreements, Judith Collins made an Awkward Speech after receiving her Ministerial Portfolios. We'll be getting much closer to our 5 eyes Partners & shoring up our relationship with Uncle Sam was the gist of her speech.
If you're at all familiar with ole Slasher's Facial Expressions as I am as a Trained Analyst of Facial Expressions & Body Language you would have noticed how those Eyebrows raised, exposing the Underlying Fear in those extremely Owl Like Eyes!
Judith came real close in my opinion to an Anxiety Attack as she realised the weight of her Portfolio's & the profound changes we were embarking on with Uncle Sam at the direction of the new Bossman.
The "Fall in Behind" orders have gone out from Washington Headquarters & we're no longer allowed to play nice with ALL our Trade Partners as China tightens the Noose on the Neoliberal Capitalist System through the Belt & Road Initiative & BRICS alternative Global Financial Trading System that Russia will be heading this year.
Our Wings are being clipped, Subtly at the moment, but as Tensions Heat Up so does the pressure on us to sign up, or be signed out. One of the Hoops we need to jump through is resolving the Indigenous problems we have. The Aussie's recently resolved there own Indigenous problem, they turned their backs on it like it didn't exist in true Aussie Supremacist Fashion. Indigenous Voice in Parliament - Nah...
Americans decimated their Indigenous Populations 130 years ago! What's the problem New Zealand??? Impose the Austerity Clause, or else. Neoliberal Capitalism is NOT a Welfare State, so fix your mess if you want to Soar with the Eagles.
He'd never let on, but I think Winston is Shittin himself at the moment having to make a choice between Blood & Power. Jones is merely a Grifter, but even he knows what's in the Cards if NZ Government doesn't push down hard on Brown & Middle Working Class Heads. Protecting Wealth for the oligarchy is difficult work in times like these...
Luxon has his Work cut out for himself on the Dancing on a Head of a Pin that he's undertaking in soft selling the new "Plan" we've been assigned by his Keepers.
Keep your eyes on the Thumb, Seymour, Jones & Winnie playing Dodgeball at Waitangi this year! We'll soon see what the Real Plan is for our Future once the Dust Clears post Waitangi.
We'll soon be sidestepping the Reserve Banking System for the returns of the Meritocratic Market & the private Market funding we'll be taking full advantage of at, of course, the Taxpayers Expense & Burden of Debt. The Cat's almost out of the Bag!
So, so sad. America the laughing stock, but still there are people (even in NZ) that argue Trump's excellence. What the actual? I'm staying well away from the news, so I am glad you are filling me in in a sensible & intelligent way.
Politics is poison as it is only to serve the self indulgent ego inflated vipers within our societies. Same here Janis here's a link I found

I'm sure many of them don't like it either. Sadly we seem well on our way, despite not being asked.
That is the point really isn't it. We on't really know who this Coalition govt. was funded by,and who they are in bed with.

"while his opponent, and soon to be next President, is a convicted criminal and also suffers from cognitive degeneration." FIFY
Sadly, I think those of us who have lived for many years in other countries have seen Aotearoa’s parallels with the worst of the USA, for a long time.
We always have wanted to be just as good as the big boys.
