I mean, c’mon?
We're honouring Steven Joyce and Ruth Richardson? For what?
Dishonourable services against New Zealanders?
Most of these awards go to people who deserve them, individuals who have excelled in a particular field or dedicated a long career to service in the community. Politicians giving each other awards for simply doing their jobs has become all too common, but surely there are limits?
The acting Chair of the TaxPayers’ Union, a lobbying organisation for the policies of the ACT Party? The creator of the Mother Of All Budgets, which pushed many New Zealanders into poverty?
Ruthanasia, they called her, with her blitzkrieg of austerity that hurt so many families.
Is that the sort of person we’re giving awards to?
