Yesterday I watched Ashley Bloomfield’s last afternoon health update. After all we’ve been through over the past couple of years, and the major role he had in communicating to us and keeping us safe, I’ve got to say I felt a bit emotional. The end not of an era, sadly the virus is still very much with us, but in a way a part of what has been one of the major events in all of our lives.
A very moving tribute Nick. He was/is a giant and as you say he 'sang' with Jacinda the same song. We were all so lucky to have his contribution. I loved watching him dance too.
The intention was to protect our hospitals from overcrowding and people not yet boosted from dying. And they were right to do it . The 1 million people Bishop was claiming wanted to come in never materialised. I think it was an epidiemolgist, not dr Bloomfield who said it . And few weeks after MIQs were shut. Look now when we are free : how many died today ? How many are suffering from Long Covid? How are our hospitals even with 4000 more nurses and doctors since 3 years ago doing? Look at Australia hospitals, even compare housing , rental debt . We did very well, we could have done better if people stopped listening to Key( remember the hermit kingdom comment : look at Japan now , if you want a real hermit kingdom, but hey he couldn't go to his Hawaii home and come back without MIQ stay !) Or Luxon ( again proven wrong about other countries being over covid, with Singapore tough rules and forms to fill and masks everywhere) ! So many falsehoods spread about this government, starting with what policies they put out, what they've been achieving, how open they are ( aren't we 5th in the world after Danemark?) Because media is foreignly owned and right supporters . Have you seen anything about Luxon recently? If Jacinda did what he does she will be out ! I was stuck in Oz, to go back to MIQs: until December las year we needed a permit to leave the country: Dutton refused all but very few. We watched my father in law funeral on zoom. No one dared to complain . In Oz Tamaki &antivaxxers kind of protesters were dealt from beginning. Police are tough in Oz!
Tell me, I heard a rumour that back in December or January that Ashley told Jacinda that the MIQ system was now causing more harm than good and it should be wound up.
But she refused to listen and demanded his resignation.
We were so very fortunate to have had Dr Bloomfield when we needed him, the naysayers can just fuck right off
