Recycled Culture Wars and Coconut Ice.

After a busy week it’s a good day to relax. Clear blues skies here in Tamaki Makaurau, very peaceful but for my dogs sleeping heavily. In the absence of a full newsletter I thought I’d send out a brief update and share a couple of posts that popped up in my memories this morning.

At the end of June it will be two and half years that I’ve been writing Nick’s Kōrero and I’m looking to change things up a bit. Do of course let me know your thoughts.

In order to build an audience I’ve shared my newsletters regularly on social media, left leaning Facebook groups, Twitter, Instagram (which I don’t really use but have in the back of my mind that I ought to), I even shared a few on LinkedIn. I feel like I’m reaching the point where I want to do less of that.

After two and a half years I figure that people on those pages know who I am and where to find me. I don’t want to overstay my welcome and I’m also wondering whether because the newsletters are regularly on those pages people don’t feel the need to subscribe, either for free to receive the free content, or paid to access all of my writing and support it.

So if you want to keep reading Nick’s Kōrero please do subscribe, be it monthly, annually, or for free to keep receiving my public newsletters.

I’ll still look to promote certain articles but that’ll probably be more like once a week, rather than most days. They will all still be on my Facebook/Twitter/Insta pages.

I’m more than happy for you to continue sharing them, in fact I think that’s much better than me sharing them which always feels a bit funny, a bit “this is my picture”. If you’re not in a position to afford a paid subscription, but would like to support my writing, then sharing posts is always a great way to do so.

Righto time for something to read…

This first one was published a year ago today and should appeal to those who don’t necessarily like dealing with insurance companies, have happy memories of school fairs and coconut ice, and there are some thoughts on the merits of electing Christopher Luxon…

The second is from this day two years ago. In it I rather jumped the gun on the need to pick a side when it came to attacks on Māori and the culture war that would be undertaken by the coalition. My respect for Nanaia Mahuta remains undiminished, on the other hand it is even lower for certain other people than I foresaw.
