We watched Charlie's speech. We were curious about that chapel I've never heard of, and also to see if he would be any different, remembering how our parents and grandparents used to huddle over the radio to hear the Queen. I thought it wasn't a bad effort. What I liked was the message we can all relate to about peace on earth, the need for compassion and love and his thanks to those who give so much in caring for others. And the thing about people of all faiths, or none, and those who come from different ethnicities and parts of the world. Somehow, as humans, we find common ground in this. I just wish it was for more than one day a year.

I thought much the same as you Darien. The King has always accepted the value of other faiths or none, which is a good approach.

Looks like you had an excellent day in the sunshine.

I must say that the sight of the Luxon family in there pyjamas did not add anything positive to my Christmas. Luckily many other things did.

Have a relaxing and peaceful day Nick.

Thanks for sharing your family photos, looks like you are all having a fun time celebrating the fact you are all in the same place together, which sounds like a bit of a rarity these days in your household.

The Luxon Lingerie Lounge photo, gifted to us as a warm and sincere Christmas message was the subject of my latest letter to the Herald, sent shortly after my still sore eyes came across it. It is indeed a very American thing, supposedly depicting just another good old laid back family enjoying showing us they’re just like anyone else. My comment on that is below.

“Magic People” is a great way to round off today’s Korero. I hope it’s message is heard and heeded across the country and becomes the happy tune that catches Sleazemore’s ear so he can whistle it all day long🎶😁

Watched Chloe’s speech at the time. She’s certainly a force to be reckoned with. The more I see and hear her, the better I like her 👍👍. My comment to the Herald is below. Wishing you all a continuing time of happiness, togetherness and joy for this festive season❤️

While it was kind of our PM to share a Christmas greeting with us all, I must question the wisdom of having himself and family pose in their pyjamas. For one who seems to consider himself Santa’s Southern Hemisphere, very beneficent alter ego,it does somewhat tacitly imply that during this season of celebration, he and his elves are sleeping on the job. Of course, I couldn’t possibly comment

Thankyou so much for the link to Chloe Swarbricks speech, don't how I've missed it. Anyhow it's on its way to rellies in aus, us and Mexico, title "Our next Jacinda Adern". A stunning woman.

Glad you had a good Christmas, Nick. ...Unfortunately, The family luxflakes photo, in their Peter Alexander pjs, has quite put me off my fav PJ store. Next time I go in, it won't be "Oooh, aren't these lovely?!" It will be, "No, I can't, I just can't love these anymore."

Urgh that pj pic, so cringey and embarrassing!!!

🎄🫂Glad you had a good Christmas & memories of times past. Did the same taking photos of the children of the children I took photos of through past years - very 💜❤️🫂 All the food was excellent & I didn't have to cook a thing 👍

Re the Lux-flakes in their PJ's - someone said a while ago his media people can't like him if they suggest things like this 😱 (or maybe it is another dumb idea from his own "sorted" persona ⁉️) As for ACT - good summary of their delusional egos & self-regard & NZ1st didn't bother watching as I am aiming for a chill few days 🤷

Kiaora Nick, looks like a good day.

Zoe Swarbrick has done so well this year despite a few party hiccups she comes through as authentic, intelligent and passionate. Chippie, Barbara, Kieran, Ayesha and Carmel (amongst others) have fought the good fight and shown their intelligence and knowledge of what is needed and how onto Coc corruption and privatsation they are. The Măori party have gained depth and shown how working with Kingi Tuheitia's kotahitanga call can be effective.

All of this shows up the weird Coc-tail of inauthentic, sponsor led, neoliberlism meets racist and conspiracy agendas with corruption thrown in as an extra.

I do not want to see peoole posing in expensive pyjamas or weird outfits.

I never watch Xmas movies full of inauthentic smultzy sentimentality.

So will focus on the world I want to be in and think in the spirit of this to send thoughts to the select committees. Here's to not letting them get away with their rotten plots.

Cheers

Merry Christmas to you too Nick. Have a well deserved break and rest. I really appreciate your posts and insights. It’s hard to be positive at the moment- everyone under the age of 35 seems to have left the country. Anyway, you are keeping it balanced and finding something to praise. Keep on being you.

Great song choice Nick! Your Xmas day sounds rather similar to my own, with whanau, food and games. It's always the people who make it fun. Xxx it is easy to see who the Coalition are most threatened by, given the choice of politician to hack. Not suggesting for one moment that the lovely law abiding caring CoCs would do such a thing, but a definitely RW supporter I reckon. Yes my xmas spirit is hanging in there... for now. Hope everyone had a lovely day and if it was less than it should have been, arohanui to you and good thoughts for things to get better for you asap. Xxx may the CoC fall apart and self destruct asap. Oops, there goes the Xmas spirit.....

Thanks, Nick! Appreciate everything this year – it’s been a wild ride, for sure. That pic from Luxon? Oof, I think I cringed harder than a cat at a bath time. And sadly, like one of your other commenters, I might be giving PA PJs a pass from now on.

Loved the family pics, though! That’s pure Kiwi – just hanging out with whanau and sharing the love. The CoC clearly doesn't get what it means to be a true Kiwi, as they’re too busy fluffing their own feathers while putting everyone else down.

I’ve got a feeling 2025’s gonna be the year of change, and we’ll need to fight for our rights. Time to stand strong against the CoC, Tamaki, and other misinformed folks. But we know you’ll lead the charge (alongside Gerard and others), as always. Thanks again, mate!
