Oh you poor Aucklanders, what bad luck to have some terrible councillors. <reads latest nonsense from anti-cycleway Christchurch City Council councillors> . Damn!

Yeah, it's not for everybody but we do need good people to stand and those good people need our continued support even when they are forced into making "hold one's nose" decisions. It's interesting to see the ways it is different to being an MP. Most Councillors don't have the cover (or support or policy limits) of a political party. Also the Council staff in theory work for all councillors not just a "minister" in the majority grouping.

It is a vital role though, with a lot of impact on our climate future. The problem may be that clown shows as we are seeing in some of our big cities puts off good people from standing.

Not me, now. I did go for Tauranga Council back when I didn't know any different. Good piece!

I don’t believe in selling today‘s assets to make us richer. I want my kids and grandkids to have a rich life too!

So I don't sink into despair at what this incompetent mayor has done, by privatising a city asset, I remind myself that: in the greater scheme of things an airport will 1) be under water in 25 yrs, and 2) the act of flying will be dead (as will I).
