I will be protesting alongside other likeminded people from all parts of Aotearoa. Te Tiriti is about all of us, sadly some people don't realise this yet or ever.

White privilege! Alive and well! Those of us, those who are unable to understand White privilege, are using politics to escalate the rhetoric with the deliberate intent of aggravating the Fear they have of the unknown. Instead of trying to discuss and understand they respond with fight, not flight, that will force us back the "good old days" or days of hate politics. They must never be allowed to win! All of us need to take a stand, against this destruction of society. Vote for "No confidence", we can!

To me this situation is similar to Custers last stand when the Indian tribes got together to fight against losing their lands - and look what happened to Custer. Of course what happened after that was a disaster for the Indian people.

I do hope it ends badly for Seymour. And let’s all stand up for progress we have been making against red-neck ism - if there’s such a thing - and all stand with Māori people. I intend to.

Me too!. Kiingi Tuhēitēa has said this hui is onlythe beginning. The story of the indigenous people of the Americas is a story of terrible genocide. Te Tiriti o Waitangi saved the story of this land from being one of genocide, even though breeches of Te Tiriti and The Treaty , have imposed colonisation, and displacement apon Māori. Te Tiriti gives Māori specific rights, and protections in their own country. Seymour et al want to get rid of these rights, and protections.

ACT may have very rich backers but the party has no mandate from the people

Wasn’t the Treaty Referendum in ACT’s election manifesto? Didn’t ACT field 61 candidates? Didn’t they win just two? The other 9 ACT MPs are List MPs. Don’t they all come from constituencies which elected MPs from other parties? If I’ve got my facts right, haven’t the people of Aotearoa already spoken on this issue?

i loved being at the event for the powhiri where iwi from around the motu spoke wonderfully (and concisely), whakakotahitanga in action. that the kotahitanga was via whakapapa first and foremost rather than politics. in the workshops there wasnt the space for korero from the floor partly because there were soooo many people. Panel speakers ranging from Hone Harawira to Jenny Shipley. Yes she was her patronising self! Almost noone was expecting an action plan from such a hui. that will come from waitangi and speakers in the forum tent in the days before the 6th are the ones to listen to for that. interesting choice of Alien Weaponry. the musket wars were devasting to our iwi in rotorua in 1823, but I am always heartened when Nga Puhi visit Te Arawa and vice versa that it gets acknowledged as one part of our relationship history. There are many who are both Nga Puhi and Te Arawa descent. Our ancestors where much better at making peace than war, despite what white supremacy mentality would say. Love your "uncle Tama" label. I can see that sticking.

Oh I’m so envious you got there. Good on you. I watched all I could online

With whakapapa back to Ngapuhi I felt so proud as I know there has been tension in the past.

Isnt it amazing how connected everyone was. It must have been so moving at times. Kia kaha.

Kia ora Nick for your excellent post today.

Does anyone else see the irony that two of the biggest Nutsax went into bat for the Nutsax numberplate and no I'm not proud either as a Te Atatu resident, but hey they country is full of anti social Nut sacks....

There was a very good doco recently by ( the excellent ) Mihingarangi Forbes with much reference to the Yes/ No vote in Australia and the incredibly huge money going into anti First Nations peoples attacks ( among other retrograde policy - climate denial, pro oil/ gas exploration etc ) by hugely monied alt right companies / corps ( such as Atlas Corporation ) supported here by the Taxpayers Union ( more Nutsacks ). The warning being a very strong - It is coming to Aotearoa and it will be a sh.t fight.

I'm already seeing plenty of comments about Maori only being a small percentage of the population and let's just keep with majority thinking and it is this sort of thinking that will be targetted with huge amounts of money, advertising etc and it turned the 65% Yes vote right around in Australia.

It would appear that Tama is a useful Uncle Tom for the Nats, sadly, as he seems to be a fairly intelligent chap ( maybe not so??? ) but money does buy things ( and people very easily also shown in the doco ) these days doesn't it - elections being a good recent example.

2024 is going to be one helluva year. Expect a referendum. Luxon is a political whore who will do absolutely anything to remain in power ( now he thinks he has it ) and to get his Knighthood.

Nick as always your Kōrero highlights the racism and political agenda. I am so sickened by the way the coalition government is using Māori and te Titiri as a political weapon to created hatred and division in NZ. It has all started with the hunger for power and to remove the Labour government and it’s supporting parties. They elected a leader who is lacking in moral code with no negotiating skills or honesty. Luxon’s ineptitude allowed Seymour and Peters to run rings around him on the negotiation table. Any leader with any decency would have ruled out the attack on Māori and te Tiriti and refused to bend on this issue. He has been warned by past National leaders not to tamper with it. As a result we now have a racist movement growing in NZ with discontent towards so called Māori privilege and the rights guaranteed by Te Tiriti. Julian Bachelor’s rhetoric and disinformation is been fed to the people too. As you stated misinformation is circling our motu and we all need to be educated on our history and the importance of understanding te Tiriti. I liked at the hui when one speaker proclaimed that all MP’s should have a thorough education on the history of NZ, and the rights of Māori guaranteed under this treaty.

Beautifully said again and so needed for me today as motivation

Last night on a visit to my Dad I heard “What a wonderful world” on the radio and on such a significant day in Aotearoa history that lyrics hit me

I hope with all my heart, that we can collectively rise about the hate and racism that this coalition of chaos is promoting.

And return to core values of a wonderful world - strength, love, unity, whanau, whakawhanautanga, manaakitanga ... I could go on... values that bring us together while strengthening our uniqueness to walk our own paths.

I wish I could say that better but today it’s the best I’ve got. Their are much stronger orators amongst us

And love the music collection and significance Nick

The Treaty cannot be changed at the whim of a group of people. Maori will takes this to the international court if they have to and I for one will support that move financially. Also the contra preferentum rule applies here. In I ternational law thar means the indigenous text is upheld. The indigenous text was the one discussed and agreed to and signed by the majority. Only at Port Waikato, was the English text signed. I highly recommend Claudia Orange's book on te tiriti. I would give the exact statistics but I don't have access to my book at the moment.

Another great read thanks Nick. They sent Tama because they are too scared and really don’t know how to engage with Māori so unlike Jacinda eh.

Waitangi Day is going to be interesting.

David Seymour is a real concern. I have no idea about him but on other sites there seems to be much suggestion that there is a lot more to him than we know. And the inferences are around some sleazy stuff. I have zero evidence but I am watching that space.

He is however in my mind very very weak. Someone has bought him… and he’s doing their bidding. He will rue this move for sure.

Thankyou and your followers here who help keep our sanity. Social media is full of vile trolls and bots right now.

Wasn’t the hui amazing. Mana motuhake for sure.

Luxon's major problem is that by opening Pandora's box he hasn't got a clue about how to rein the situation in before it sprirals completely out of control. He and his kind totally underestimate just what Maori are defending , their Mana and their future ......

We are living in critically important times. Pakeha need to unite with Māori in the struggle to protect our country’s most basic values - the jewels of Kiwis! Te Tiriti is the sacred foundation of Aoteoroa as we know and love it!

What more to say? Great article Nick! And astonishing and depressing to know that the word nutsax is less offensive to the govt that Te Reo. I guess the description is captured across the caucus, given that they are so a bunch of nutsax. I am horrified and concerned at the legitimizing of racism and misogyny by this govt, not to mention their tokenism and intentional insult by sending minions to the Hui yesterday. The two who went are too stupid to be insulted by it, the fact that they are not valued as members of the govt by Luxon. Funny if it wasn't so concerning and worrying, along with allowing access ...by more white supremacist nutters ..... to guns as they reverse the gun controls put in place for the very best reasons in the world. This is going in a frightening direction, and the hatred and ignorance will become an actual threat very soon I fear....

The ‘leak’ of the memo from the Ministry, especially the timing, smells very much like something out of the Republican playbook to provide an opportunity for an overwhelming response from the plutocrats in power. Very scary.

I felt proud to live in our little country, where despite all attempts to wipe them out, Maori, our indigenous people, can come together in a way only they can, yet still offer manaakitanga to those who want to erase their foundations, their rights and their language. I felt ashamed that we have people who are so threatened by this they voted for fools like David Seymour and Winston Peters, not to mention Tama Potaka.
