Brooke is so cold and calculating. I guess you'd have to be to stand for ACT and try to defend the indefensible. Chloe's facial expressions as always, classic! She is so articulate and controlled in expressing her views, but never ever loses her humanity, whereas David and Brooke seem like badly programmed robots.

I guess when you have to say something reasonable when you really want to say the awful, decisive ACT policies, it will make you sound like a robot.

Great article Nick - as much as I would love Chloe to be our PM I wouldn’t wish all that hateful venom on to her

I hear you and feel the same. Another reason why it's such a problem, are we to only have cookie cutter middle aged white men as leaders, who don't receive the same level of abuse?

Short answer to your question is that you only have to look at the UK & USA politicians to see how many women have left and that the quality of so many men, especially on the right of politics is substandard. Government should be for everyone not just the rich donors. Much as it pains me to say but maybe now is the time to ban political donations all together and for the tax payer to fund parties. It would need a strong redistribution of the tax regime to be affordable. Quite how an amount is arrived at I am sure would take time to decide!

Labour had already re written the amount of donations that should be allowed. But I presume it will not get passed.

I'm waiting to see how little the pensioner gets as a tax reduction from this lot. It will probably be accompanied by all manner of reductions of beneficial allotments of subsidies and services to the poor, disabled, and elderly. But whatever mine is, it is going immediately into the opposition's campaign fund. Campaign funds must be tax funded and equitable for legitimate parties!

That would be awful but it appears where we may be headed - such a shame and such a waste of these fabulous women- I have a young friend who holds a senior role within her IWI organisation and I said to her that she should get into politics but her response was - Hell no!

"...NZ First heir apparent, Shane Jones. Who has described the Hui as a “monumental moan-session”, which sounds like a review of one of the movies he used to rent on the taxpayer’s coin."

LMAO - brilliant Nick! Enjoyed the entire piece but that made me laugh out loud and had others in the office wondering what was going on ...

Yes, that bit got me guffawing as well....

Love it Nick

I started laughing at this too🤣

The photo said it all. Being the empathetic kind type that I am, I would genuinely like for Shane to get it about the benefits of less sugar, more exercise, so his body health and brain can get on track to function as a leader and representative. If only.

Fantastic Korero Nick! The minutiae of the voting in Epsom is the perfect 'wet kipper' slap across the face that Seymour requires to wake him up to the reality that the country does not share his race baiting views. ACT's collective failure to turn up to Turangawaewae Marae tells the rest of the country everything they need to know about ACT's commitment to helping all Kiwis including Maori to an equitable slice of the countries cake.

A sociopathic cold fish incapable of forming her own opinion outside of the party line. She is like a walking AI robot who someone forgot to program. Apologies for being a bit mean but it seems that is ok in Brook's version of the world so I am probably forgiven already....emotions etc.....

She lost me in the young leader’s debate when she said she survived as a poor student on tuna and pasta, so knows what it’s like. 😀😀So unrelatable to many who are 2 minute noodles living.

🤣 oh the poor little rich girl lol

Well summarized Nick. After watching old British comedy over the holidays I have noticed a startling resemblance between D Seymour and Mr Bean. Same manipulative behaviour also.

Meanwhile no media seems to be reporting on the anti-Islamic speech Seymour gave at the Auckland event in support of right wing nationalism.

As usual Nick you are on the money with this blog. And most definitely Chlöe would make an awesome PM but I shudder to think of the vitriolic response from those who similarly trashed Jacinda through her last term. The sexist and mysoginistic abuse by women against women leaders is what concerns me more. It's not acceptable by people of any gender in my opinion, but why so many women also bought into this this narrative is perplexing.

On a personal note, your daily writing is well worth supporting and I thank you for the commitment to sharing this with us. Ngā mihi 🐻

And to boot, some of the comments here just reflect that same concern - and abuse. 🫤

Thanks Nick. I shared your Korero today on my fb page and wrote the following to accompany it.

Thank goodness for Chloe. A good read, especially for Ngati Pakeha (us white tribe folk) to hopefully be enthused to read about what ACT is trying to do. ACT’s intentions might sound reasonable to those who have no interest in Māori, Māori heritage, the massive loss of land and way of life they experienced and have endured, and the fact that Māori were here before Pakeha. My preference is to be grateful to Māori that I live on their Aotearoa beaut island. The least we can all do is respect Maori’s rights to uphold the values of the Treaty of Waitangi, and make an effort to understand it is integral to every Māori person, even those who do not realise it, because one day, they might. What we all need now is love, sweet love.

Thanks Nick, A thoughtful piece as usual. I enjoyed the read and was stunned by the lack of empathy and insight by some of our Govt politicians. It will be a long 3 years!
