Natalie, Luxon's stupidity regarding the origin of the Labour Day Holiday sums up exactly why he , and they are so unutterably unfit for government, nicola cats bum willis is going to make ruthanasia look like a sensible and moderate idea

True story Peter. Scary stuff indeed!!

I concur Natalie, however, every time the name luxon is miss-spelt luxton, there is a labour MP Luxton, who must get sick of the black mark against his name

Socialist is the word I would prefer to use. We live in a social democracy but somehow the term social has become a dirty word.

Yes I absolutely agree. Her trade unionist father fought for workers rights and she took up the mantel. She was intelligent articulate ,brave - very clear about her focus. I admired her greatly and was very sad when cancer took her. Sonia Davies was another grass roots advocate for the rights of workers, and especially for women. Her book-Bread and Roses- the song of women's emancipation tells her story of fighting for womens and workers rights in Aotearoa/NZ.

I grew up with stories ofth e1951 watesiders strike when the army was used against the strikers. So shameful.! My father supported that move but my grandmother who was a staunch socialist, and labour party member completely disgreed with him. I remember the "differing views".

Well said Nick couldn't agree more we do so need to stand up to protect those rights gained through our unions over time. Anyone with any doubt about what could happen should look at the list of ACT policies which seek take away all the hard won gains while Luxon and Willis cheer them on. Benignly of course.

We are just beginning to rebuild our union base after the Bolger, Shipley and Richardson government changed employment laws to render unions impotent. Workers were forced to be employed on individual contracts. This was the Employment Contracts Bill which became law.I protested against this Bil as part of a womens action group . Grant Robertson, as student leader also lead many protests. He managed to avoid ending up in court- I wasn't so lucky. !

Absolutely agree. Have been in lots of "fights" for rights over the years including fighting against individual contracts.

Oh dear. If you find usage of the term Aotearoa displaces you, perhaps you will understand how it has been for Māori who have lived in these islands for at least six hundred years, and then a group of people from some distant horizon arrive here and start renaming everything.

The brown colonialists never had a name for the country.

Iwi had many names for these islands. and the areas they inhabited. The name New Zealand. was dumped on these lands by a Dutch person who didn't even set foot on these lands.Aotearoa is known to have been accepted as a descriptive name across iwi.

I gave the benefit of the doubt here that this was perhaps a parody of a racist. Turns out not huh, that’ll be final warning, I don’t have any patience for racism.
