Like others have said Shane Jones is just a plonker but dangerous with it. The US election interestingly with clueless Trump involved are highlighting similar sentiments as is happening here, devolution of public services, initiating legislation diminishing any Govt accountability and leaving it to the whim of the market place and corporations, nothing new in other words, but hugely detrimental to ordinary NZers. Sitting on the top of a hill near South Dunedin, we watched the rain event and remembered the then council members from the last major flooding say ‘once in a hundred years event’ or similar. Some were out at the next elections. The current situation is bad and sooner or later there will be worse. Yet any talk of relocation from the worst areas in Sth D or infrastructure work to negate the flooding goes nowhere. Lots of talk, no money, up to central government etc etc.
Fine words from Mitchell about what a good response from the DCC and emergency services but no advice when there are blue skies and sunshine for long term solutions. Dare I say it but it’s the usual Kiwi response. Lots of talk but little or no action because it will cost millions of dollars.
I first heard of you through my American friend. I can't recall the subject, but it was enough for me to check you out. When you ended up in my email, I read for a little and decided, yep I'm subscribing.
So I have made the pledge (God willing, long life) to stick in there for the next two years at least. Up to the next election, watching how it pans out, and your views, which are always appreciated. Nga mihi Nick.

Thanks for that beetle reminiscence, a vivid memory of mine was wearing hard Beetles hard plastic wigs you could buy at the time, putting on a show at the girl guides impersonating them, and it just proved to me today that our wigs did look the same as their hair cuts. lol.

He really has read the Trump handbook and is an expert at spinning stories about himself and denigrating anyone who dares to question him. I asked him about Climate Change during the last election and he really let rip. Apparently, at a meeting recently, he commented to my daughter that I had a very sharp tongue - I had no idea he knew my name! Stores up grudges too it seems.
