Excellent succinct analysis. Thanks Nick. Henry Cooke was interesting today, basically saying that Aotearoa might finally be ripe for tax change just because Luxon is so unlikeable and wears his wealth so crassly. Yes the 'Awards pic' ehile Dunedin floods was VERY Trumpesque. Go if you have to but the relentless, sickening social media promis are just disgusting
Morena Nick. Shane Jones is a disgrace. A scan of the comments under his evil and divisive diatribe show the support such views receive from the haters and wreckers, of which we have all too many. How refreshing to then watch Ben Nevell stating the uncomfortable truth from the middle of the new South Dunedin duck pond and getting right up the nose of Select Committee chair and Act MP Parmjeet Parmar by refusing to sign off until he was good and ready. More great music Nick. Keep it coming.
Back on Thursday none of the business leaders at Fran’s breakfast even mentioned climate change, not a problem for them until it ruins their quarterly returns. Great song choice Nick.
I bet what the Luxflake 'actually' said about Dunedin was: Serves them right. See God agrees with me, let it rain on their parade. And then he stamped his foot and pouted, like the not grown-up he is.
Shane Jones is appalling! Unfortunately, he is from up here, so unavoidable at election time. He really has read the Trump handbook and is an expert at spinning stories about himself and denigrating anyone who dares to question him. I asked him about Climate Change during the last election and he really let rip. Apparently, at a meeting recently, he commented to my daughter that I had a very sharp tongue - I had no idea he knew my name! Stores up grudges too it seems.
I first heard of you through my American friend. I can't recall the subject, but it was enough for me to check you out. When you ended up in my email, I read for a little and decided, yep I'm subscribing.
So I have made the pledge (God willing, long life) to stick in there for the next two years at least. Up to the next election, watching how it pans out, and your views, which are always appreciated. Nga mihi Nick.
Thanks for the support - it's going to be quite a ride, at least for the next year. Come 2026 they'll calm down a bit with an election to fight - it's going to brutal can't wait to see Labour and the Greens hold them to account for all these things.
Kia ora Nick, Going to be brutal, I reckon too. Thats also why I want to continue being a subscriber, I'm looking forward to your analysis. 2026, calm down and start spreading the lollies of goodies to entice? I hope too the other parties don't forget the pain that has been spread by the COC, and hold them strongly to account. I'm counting on the COC being a one term govt.
Like others have said Shane Jones is just a plonker but dangerous with it. The US election interestingly with clueless Trump involved are highlighting similar sentiments as is happening here, devolution of public services, initiating legislation diminishing any Govt accountability and leaving it to the whim of the market place and corporations, nothing new in other words, but hugely detrimental to ordinary NZers. Great article Nick and good to see the Act MP getting dumped on in spades from Nevell.
Shane jones doesn’t like the truth because he’s an overinflated bully. His way or the highway. And he’s no right to use the term “Matua” he holds no mana
Sitting on the top of a hill near South Dunedin, we watched the rain event and remembered the then council members from the last major flooding say ‘once in a hundred years event’ or similar. Some were out at the next elections. The current situation is bad and sooner or later there will be worse. Yet any talk of relocation from the worst areas in Sth D or infrastructure work to negate the flooding goes nowhere. Lots of talk, no money, up to central government etc etc.
Fine words from Mitchell about what a good response from the DCC and emergency services but no advice when there are blue skies and sunshine for long term solutions. Dare I say it but it’s the usual Kiwi response. Lots of talk but little or no action because it will cost millions of dollars.
Driving from Cambridge to Auckland the other day - all the new housing - NOT ONE SOLAR PANEL IN SIGHT! Why in the hell aren't we focussing on harnessing the power of our SUN??????
Calls himself "Matua Shane Jones" but carries none of the hopes and aspirations of Tangata Whenua with him. A two-faced self-serving hypocrite. It's terrifying to think of the power he has for the next two years.
I suspect the thinking behind Luxon's attendance at the Indian Hall of Fame event was along these lines. He would think " why should I do what I can to help an ungrateful bunch of losers who held a demonstration just because I denied them a new hospital? It's not like they've earned it and Dunedin will dry out.... eventually. We will be able to thank those whose lives were given to save a few dollars we discovered we didn't have anyway, as martyrs to my master plan, ( when I can remember what it was) My laser like focus should be aimed at where my loyalties lie: North of Wellington and preferably North of the equator. That's where the money I want is. I'm prepared to make sacrifices to lead our country forward and I'm sure the majority of Kiwis will
understand and agree, so long as no one important, (like me, Shane, Winston, Nicola, Simeon or David is affected. Isn't that a great future we have to look forward to!? "
Have you watched the penultimate submission towards the Crown Mineral Am. act by a Ben Neville site is below well worth a watch. Can’t bear to listen to Jones at all. Such sickening vocab comes from his intestine.
Thanks for that beetle reminiscence, a vivid memory of mine was wearing hard Beetles hard plastic wigs you could buy at the time, putting on a show at the girl guides impersonating them, and it just proved to me today that our wigs did look the same as their hair cuts. lol.
😢Dunedin is one of the places I have lived & worked so it hurts to see it being so badly affected, but it hurts more to see & hear the tone-deaf utterances from the 3-headed-Taniwha about climate change effects & mitigation in Aotearoa. 🤬 It means they will continue to proactively HARM our present and future with their policies, and not proactively IMPROVE our present & future with mitigation & improvement policies.🤢
🫢The submission from Ben in the midst of the flooded Dunedin streets is perfect - people might not care about Dunedin per se but he made it memorable with salient facts that people might take in while enjoying the novelty of it & the helplessness of the Chair to stop him 😜
🤢Not surprised at the complete lack of self-awareness of Lux-flakes dressing up for an event when he could have/should have been down south "helping" - that other strange outfit you highlighted would have been perfect with gumboots & a shovel!😁
I remember when Trump first got into power in 2016 - there was a woman who kept track of EVERY decision, legal challenge, Admin person who got fired/resigned/indicted, outrageous statements by both him & his sycophants, etc. etc. so as nothing would be forgotten. With the internet today we should have no trouble putting together something similar leading up to the 2026 election 🤷🏾♀️

This submitter is amazing!
He's my new hero. ACT MP Parmjeet Pamar could hardly contain herself.
Ha you beat me to it! I agree that guy is a total hero - in your face select committee lady!
Thanks for posting that Glenys
Just incredible 😀
Wow thats brilliant. Well done that man!!!
Brilliant submission.
Oh that was bloody brilliant 👏👏👏
Fantastic! Gotta share it far and wide :D

That thought occurred to me too. That crassness might favour change.

Yes a disgrace he is and dangerous with lots of bad connections

I was thinking exactly the same! Can’t you just picture him doing that?!

That’s because all these politicians are using the same neoliberal playbook.

I grew up in Dunedin. Many family members are still there. Christoper Luxon is a card-carrying scrot sac.
