While you are right about the closeness of the New Zealand community, especially in Wellington where politicians and press gallery intermingle as part of their working world, conflicts of interest to this extent must be closely scrutinised. I'm also concerned about the seeming lack of understanding of how government works. You would think that a year or two in the press gallery would give you at least as much knowledge as Pols101. I come across a lot of ignorance among general population a long way from Wellington, about how government works, but it's inexcusable in press gallery journalists.

After watching Jenna at work being down right nasty I wondered why after not watching 3 news (or TV1 news) for over a year why I thought it might have improved. Silly me. TV off until 7.30 to preserve my mental health

I can only watch Deutsche Welle News now. I can't stand the right wing bias of our TV reporters.

Same here, sometimes I watch Prime but mostly I listen to RNZ, although 1-5pm tests my patience at times.

Wow Nick. She won Political Journalist of the Year at the Voyager Media Awards last year? Clearly not for unbiased reporting. Pretty much sums up where MSM reporting is at in Aotearoa. If Jason Walls was runner up I will really go and have a cry.

I watched with mounting incredulity. How dare he not have an oven ready tax policy within hours when the partisan press demand it. And then demand it again and again how many times in a few minutes. Gleefully energized. The respective honeymoons perfectly contrasted, thank you Nick.

wow- I am shocked.I always knew Jemma Lynch is quite anti-Labour-especially Jacinda Ardern. Get her and Bridget Moreton together, and they can barely bring themselves to make a positive comment about the Labour Govt. and in particular Jacinda Ardern as PM. Add to those two Josie Pagani, and we are talking about three women sneering at Jacinda. This happened when these three were the supposed unbiased panel on one Newshub Nation program last year.

Valuable information thanks Nick. I can not watch TV3 news, not that TV1 is much better.

One is terrible, politically. I do wonder, with the predominance of women in media holding politics roles, why are they so irredeemably negative and bitchy. (I am female) My guess would be it’s at the behest of their seniors, steering the agenda, but they willingly go along with this. It seems to me that Tova has made a career limiting choice in her move.

What a nasty piece of work she seems to be. I haven't had the misfortune to hear her commentary firsthand, because I never watch 3 news. I wonder if these (mostly female) "journalists " ever take a good look at themselves? They would have been the "mean girls" at school, doing their best to make the lives of others a misery.

If anyone is intending to make a complaint perhaps focus on unbalanced reporting, I have already seen one person complain about the conflict of interest to be told by Discovery that they are aware of the relationship and not concerned by it.

The segment referred to at the start of the newsletter was on the 6pm NewsHub show on Wednesday 25/1, the link is below:
