Maiki's piece was pure dribble. She knows nothing about the West Coast. That vitriolic Mayor should be ashamed of herself. What an ugly piece. Hope she gets the chop next time around.

I despair of getting any well researched presentations from TV1. J MM appears to have her own brand of malignancy which she has perpetuated over the last 2/3 elections. I have rarely watched their news since the bias shown about Covid procedures and that department needs a good shakeup.

I couldn't agree more. Have not watched the first part of TV1 News all this year.

Spot on Nick. Just wish we could get this up and out to everyone as the reasoned counter- narrative. I'm disgusted that our publicly funded broadcaster has become the National party campaign platform. Grrr.

Yep even on Newsroom's 'daily briefing' email today, of the 5 political article headlines and accompanying photo - all are for the right wing - Luxon's name or photo on the leading 3 articles, bizarrely even the one about Ethan Reille a Labour candidate being the youngest person to run with a photo of an ACT hoarding. The email shows Luxons name 4 times, Hipkins 0, National 1, Labour 0.

The Bulletin's email today mentions National 15 times and Labour 5, Luxon 7 times and Hipkins 5, and only 1 photo which is of John Key!

Thanks for your research. I don't understand it!

Thanks Nick. You’re absolutely right. ADVERTORIAL... An advertorial is a form of advertising that is designed to look like an editorial feature in a publication. It is essentially a paid ad or advertisement that appears in print or online but is written in the style of a news article or feature.

All of this is concerning and adds to my sense that the media across NZ are intent on getting Labour un-elected. The question to be asked is Why, who is advantaged by this and who are the powerful master minding this attack on our democracy?

Well, it seemed that everything in the Makeover of RNZ / TVNZ was going swimmingly, but the MP juggling the Bookwork on Immigration & Media Communications decided to pull the plug on the Deal a bit prematurely & decided he would be better off serving himself as an Insider Lobbyist and make some REAL Money, rather than stick around to get his once "Pet Project" off the Ground on a measly $260K MP Salary, Plus Expenses, Electric Tesla, plus Free Flights & Lunches all over town forever & ever Ameni..

Nah, I think Chippie is the only Clean one in the Bunch at the moment & will need to do his own major Reshuffle like his previous Boss did with both Cabinet & MP's Seats if he can bring this one home under the Wire!

Call Chippy what you want if you want, but he's not a Bullshitter. He tells it & calls it as he see's it & goes Bonkers, like most of us here do, when he hears such vicious Canine Attack Comments coming at him.

He's probably horrified at the made up Junk designed to Villify him & the Labour Party in General! I do know how Chippie might feel, faced with the Scurrilous rubbish rolling off Lux Luther's, Woodhead & Nicoal "in your Christmas stockings" Willis, like Diarrhea out of a Goose's Arse in a raging Windstorm. I guess with all the recent Role Changes we've had in society, Spitting at one's opponent in a debate setting is now OK for the Woman in the Mud Pit if the Narrator doesn't haul you up for it?

Anyway, what a load of Wallop Du Codfish!!! Chippie's got Honor on his side & he's a Gentleman. One of the last of his Breed I think, but he Rocks & doesn't throw em at his opponentry in the vicious way he's been rubbished untruthfully & with as much spitting Vitriol as another human could muster.

He doesn't want this to turn this into a Shit Slingin Contest and romp thru the Mudbath with that lot on the Wide Right.

He can win a debate Fair & Square with Truthful Facts & with his sense of Self Confidence, that I'm sure even the folks on the margins can see & appreciate about him compared to the Screamin Meanies on the right of Genghis Khan, he's up against!

If this were a Fair Fight it wouldn't be much of a contest, but it ain't Fair with the Media Pile up & the Screamin Meanies spreading their Fairy Tales all over Town down on the formerly Left Coast. I guess they forgot about Sir John & Pike River??? That's sad, but what can ya say - eh??

I hope Chippy remembers what his Mum told him when he was a Lad about "Cheaters Never Win"! He might have to hold his breath & Grin through his clenched teeth, trying to stay calm & honest, but that builds Character & thats a good trait for leaders to possess, I guess. He's the only Leader up there besides Jim & Marama with the Class & Tikanga it takes to lead a country.

Maybe Waititi can be tamed enough to work with, so I'm thinking a good working Union can be worked out, so we ALL don't need to turn out the lights in the Country after Mid October.

I sure hope so, cuz he sure doesn't deserve to be Cheap Shotted into early retirement by that Bus full of Bozo's... Let er Rip Chip!

I agree that the national broadcaster seems to be unconscious of the notion of fairness, or of balanced reporting!

Yes but why?

Does anyone have any insight into reasons?

Is this why Kim Hill may have resigned?

I have been thinking about journalists. Yes I am making a generalisation, but these days they are mainly urban and well paid. They spend their time with other urban and well paid people. Their "reporting" has inbuilt bias as a result. The only time they would see a bottom feeder would be in the dock in court.

Or, they know the angle they are expected to take and report accordingly. Terrible whichever way you look at it.

We need more journos of the calibre of Simon Wilson.

Money talks. National and Act have plenty of it, and connections that are not in our best interests. If you want a country run by oligarchs, NACT is your happy place - and it seems that many of our citizens only see the front cover of the glossy documents.

Expand full comment

Yes but Jill how does this explain RNZ and TVNZ bias?

Expand full comment

I think they're influenced by a swing to the political right, and they're alway looking for more views on their sites, so they focus on what gets the most clicks. Also, some of the presenters have a personal preference for right wing candidates which shows up in their interviews and debate moderation. This preference is also apparent in editorial decisions, headlines, and advertising of programmes.
