Thanks for writing this and giving us some perspective and information about Kerrin. I thought Simon W was a little unkind. But we do tend to go for Mayors with "names". And look what it's dished up over the years - John Banks was our Mayor FFS. The only ones I can think of with fondness off the top of my head are Phil Goff and Dick Hubbard and of course Sir Dove-Myer who apparently did good stuff a long time ago. Penny H was an excellent Deputy but fair enough - she's more than done her bit. Important to understand that the Whau Board represents many of the West Auckland burbs where a bit of energy needs to be put into getting them to vote (that's if they are ratepayers of course!). We have great Westie Board reps out here and some coming through for the future. I am also a fan of Richard Hills, and I hope like hell he and Chris Darby get re elected in the hardest seats in Auckland - North Shore.
Looks as if Simon Wilson has published hearsay, which I recall being told was a no-no on my Journo course back in '95, but seems like standard practice today.
Oh goodness Nick, I can hear Drunkle & Shane Jones shouting Woke Woke if either of them had the sense to read your Korero today!!
Kerrin sounds like someone who knows her 'stuff'. be good if she contacted Simon Wilson and suggested an interview as he obviously does not know her. Probably be a positive move to have a chat with both Kiri Allen & Tory Whanau to assist her to prepare her own strategy to handle the pale, stale, male, bitchy woman & other bigots in Aotearoa New Zealand society.
Oh and probably a time to recall that Robert Gallagher died and was remembered last week ; the mover and shaker in City Vision which was about getting Left Candidates onto Local Boards and the Council. Proud record.
Nick, it's 19 years tomorrow since we brought the home we live in, in that time our land rates have increased by more than 100% , Have the services we receive from the ACC increased 100% ? No, they have not , and nor has our income increased 100% .. I want someone who can demonstrate fiscal prudence whilst maintaining the essential services both social and infrastructure wise so that we the rate payers both residential and commercial are not seen as some sort of bottomless pit to extract revenue from.
Thanks Nick , it’s good to get some info on prospective candidates before the election frenzy starts. Kerrin sounds eminently capable but it disappoints me that Simon Wilson has fallen into the same lazy and biased way of reporting ie anyone is better than a young skilled intelligent Māori woman !
The left is going to miss the knowledge and political nous the late Robert Gallagher brought to the local and central govt elections in Auckland .

Very interesting article article. Good to learn about a new candidate, before the run up to the mayoral election….

Should Simpson run and Brown rerun, it could be all on. Even better if Bennett or any of the other right wing has beens put their hands up.
The left need to rally around one candidate and put all their energy into them.
I like the cut of Keriin Leon’s gib.
