I think that the only sanction that we have for useless politicians - voting them out- doesn't concentrate the mind sufficiently. Perhaps what we need is a law which will make politicians liable for damage caused by their policies, after they cease to be in government?
I think a law with only 1 strike for deceiving (with holding info) deception, lying, misconception, misleading, stoking conspiracies (rather like a certain Dr), etc is evidence for dismissal from parliament forever (as well as never working for any candidate) etc.
Willis lied to a reporter when asked if her austerity measures had caused the massive unemployment spike. She answered no of course not. Strike 1 out, no pension no perks.
Which makes them the most irresponsible government this country has ever had. Very glad to see “Crusher” resigning but feel equally sorry for her next victims,(oops, I meant colleagues)
Thanks again Nik for bringing this to our attention.
I'll be writing to my MP and also Penk on this matter.
My ex was a conscientious builder who was aghast at the unnecessary leaky building fiasco. He also bemoaned the fact that building inspectors were a dying breed, They were once a thorn in the side of careless carpenters.
Are we looking at more of the same to save some cowboys from responsibility?
Chris Penk’s housing build changes sounded familiar. Then I remembered. ACT party housing policy 2023. Penk has done a cut & paste job. Who’s running this Govt?
I was interested that when Government suggested that we didn't need a Council inquiry as well that Mahe Drysdale said the Tauranga Council would go ahead with their own inquiry because of concern that any government inquiry might take a long time. I hope all is revealed and responded to with timeliness.
Yes, but then Drysdale followed it up by saying the council inquiry would be six months! Good lord, how long is the government one going to be? Sometime after the election, perhaps?
I was driving to Te Puke today 😂🤣no I was really & looking at all the slips on those hills that have been denuded by farmers for generations even my 90 year old Aunty said when they were young they knew if you took away all the trees that's what would happen it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.
Well spotted Nick. I hadn't noticed this ; Chris Penk is a "rising star" and I expect him to be promoted to Cabinet when someone is dumped ; or maybe replace JuCo. I see even more builders firms have gone broke this month. Doesnt augur well for the build of "Granny" flats which I reckon will become dodgy little dwellings that no self respecting granny could or would live in.
As soon as I saw this article, it came to mind a piece on "The Wire " on BFM about meat works regulation changes coming into effect.. This article seems to do well for the insurance companies, building contractor companies and any other Gung Ho handmen up for a fast buck, no matter what the outcome. So back on track for dodgy bastards with no morals checking their own work, regulations be damned. The Meat companies' deregulation approach is to remove all those diligent meat inspectors who stop urine and excrement from getting into our meat and protect the value of our export market while keeping it from melting brains with mad cow disease and steaks that taste like pooh. Only a mad cow would come up with the idea of letting the Meat companies hire their own inspectors, inspect it themselves, and everything will be hunky dory. No conflict of interest there, at all. No pressure at all on the inspectors not to shut down lines in the meatworx that regularly cost thousands of dollars each time this happens. Obviously, the really good inspectors, who have shut down lines in the past, are never going to get a job when the government yet again fires a whole bunch of people whose entire existence was centred around keeping us all healthy. That's right there, with Winston wanting to stop paying for the World Health Organisation because he has been watching a yellow fat chicken too much on CNN and wants to be just like him. So NACT is fucking up building regulations, Meat hygiene regulations, and the private hospitals are saying they can't cope with all the extra work from the ongoing dismantling of the health system. There are microplastics in our brains, and when those brains finally turn to mush like rotting leaky homes, it will all be because we are, in fact, in a country run by a bunch of rabid, morally corrupt Bulls, Madcows, who say what they excrete, bullshit from both ends.
I was trying to think who Chris Penk reminds me of: nerdy male actor and I came up with Rick Moranis when he was in the original ghost busters movie. He was seduced by Sigourney Weaver when she was a demon lol
What a bunch of complete tossers! Perhaps this is an attempt to help Fletchers out with selling off their building division - to a foreign company? It all looks more attractive if you don’t have to accept any responsibility for your incompetence.
🤷 Reason #1million 25 thousand to ensure this is a one term gov ⁉️ FFS - how can ANYONE in Aotearoa who was alive during the leaky homes disaster (still ongoing for some people 🥺) even THINK of something so stupid & anti-home owner 🤬
IF the problem is builders going bankrupt, insurance co pull-outs etc, then introduce/enforce an overriding govt agency (like EQC 🤷) where the builders & ins co have to pay in their premiums to be held against default - ie can't operate as a builder WITHOUT taking out cover & it is held by this independent agency PLUS international co can only operate if they deposit a substantial bond annually against THEIR default 🤔 I dunno - but the govt is not without power to protect citizens if they CHOOSE TO - comes back again to the CHOICES this lot make being both revealing and damning 🤬

First against the wall when the revolution comes...that was the Sirius cybernetics company in the HHGTTG ( A bunch of mindless jerks who were the first against the wall when the revolution came)...but perhaps the Atlas Bootlickers Party should suffer the same.

I had in mind financial penalties...
That to..No pension.
Funny Winston & Shame J came straight to my mind.😂🤣😂

This government takes no responsibility for anything.

A lot of those building inspectors didn't have a clue about buildings a bit like what happened in Christchurch as well.

Penk will let the grass grow on the landslides and then call them rehabilitated. And put the onus on to homeowners and councils to prove it otherwise.

Generally a couple of years and then withhold it due to commercial interests

If you could spare a thought for my daughter, in intensive care at hospital, I would be forever grateful. Thank you so much x

Really appreciate your work - and your writing Nick.
Thanks, Lyn. 🙂
Very angry about this.
