The ignorance is crass in NZ. Really the school curriculum should include some Marx&Engels teach8jgs about what capitalism ( real one), socialism and communism are. I lived in socialism. I studied economics , socialist&all. Socialist policies are in all Scandinavian countries right now and we all know Finland people are tge happiest in the world. Reason ? More egalitarian society , less millionaires, welfare is better, education, housing supporting people. Communism is in an Israelis kibbutz. Growing up i had free education, including university ( same as it was in NZ , Key had it), free health with doctors doing home visits in winter. Free school books each year. House: a 2 bedroom apartment, warm and cosy . My friends were from different background: cleaner, factory worker, engineers. We didn't differentiate. As kids we were safe : no crime! My parents both worked: engibeer and teacher. We were polite, respecting elders, doing home work and not talking in class. Respect was taught early in children. We had everything. Unfortunately humans are greedy : our country descended into dictatorship. Now after years of "freedom" abd corporatism , country is a mess, corruption is rife, sold to foreigners who exploit the natural resources taking profits away. Crime is high, poverty (we never had it as everyone was working, no dole , all had a house or flat ) , with children living under bridges...this is why we need better education. And less screen time.
