That interview of Sam Neill by Kim Hill is worth listening to. He misses the previous PM and mentioned how he was away for the first year of Covid and everyone overseas praised NZ. He got home and found that everyone was complaining. Any small grievance became front page news.

Yes, I didn't catch all of it driving, I'll go back and listen to the start. There is a link in the newsletter to the RNZ audio.

Telling that - how the front page of old fashioned newspapers in pre-covid19 NZ shapes insular kiwi attitudes. Electronic Kōrero is changing that and modern kiwi are less likely to read the paper based and expensive Herald or NBR but, but the party-sporty crowd are more likely to go down free ZB sound-bite rabbit holes than read international backgrounded Kōrero

... and then a telling 'Kim Hill pause' before the word 'journalists'.

Lovely interview, Sir Sam Neill and Kim Hill, joy on a Saturday morning.

I can only hope that Sam recovers and continues to work - he really is a superb actor . JL Ross how appropriate for a well known sex pest to wind up running a knocking shop , the Nats do know how to pick them.,

I like Nash's mongrel , keep him on , as for slater and collins I keep going back to a sack, an anchor and a lake...........

Thank you for translating what "chur" means Nick.! I listened to Sam Neal's interview wih Kim Hill. He did say he was missing Jacinda Ardern and talked about how awful, and undeserved the comments on social media were about her. he said he noticed when he returned to NZ after being away for a year how many kiwis were complaining, and how the media seemed to be complicit in that.

Clever column - I like it. It comforts me to recall how the voters punished the liars and wreckers and got rid of quite a few LOTOs by providing very poor leadership poll results.

Great interview. I have always been a fan of Sam Neil. So sorry to hear he has cancer so here is hoping he stays in remission. I will be down to the bookshop as soon as to buy a copy.

Just a personal comment Nick (told you this so many times before), that Sam Neill stayed with us overnight on his trip as a young actor visiting schools - and he held you in his arms as a baby!!! NZ small place, eh.

I hmmm all the time!.

I'm in my 70s, live on my own, radio on all day, check Facebook regularly, walk the dog and do gardening a lot. Plenty of opportunities to hmmm.

But Jamie Lee Ross has me going aha! The nasty man has finally found his true calling.

It has taken me a while to write this because I pause often to do the reflecting hmmm. Someone said it is the mind going around the world for sixpence. I think I'll use that as a title for my memoirs.

But back to your article, Nick, there are enough hmmms in the current political sphere to keep us all hmmming all day. Bless you.

Love the dig about the bed leg! Yes, so sorry to hear of Sam Neill's illness. What an enormously great talent and he is really an icon too for a NZer who uses his energy well. So well written Nick - I enjoyed reading it. Like the notion of Hmmmmmm.
