The Auckland City library system is a life-saver for every demographic, from young mums with babies at songtime groups, school children in homework groups, hipsters lounging over magazines, the 'retired' devouring the latest books they had no time to enjoy in a lifetime of work and toil;
the internet-poor, migrants in groups learning about their new culture, kids churning out 3D stuff ... ...
Such an informative and satisfying read. Please make this one public asap so that it can be shared far and wide and get in front of the inevitable naysayers.
Interesting having Maori words in the Oxford English Dictionary. I make the assumption that there was consultation around this before it was finalised, and they re there as words that have come into everyday use in Aotearoa/New Zealand. E hoa (friend) certainly has been used in kiwi English for some time. My father always used it when addressing a friend. The train station names are fine. You are right about Waitematā being mispronounced. Having the macron over the last ā is a clue to how it should be pronounced. Like Taupō-another place name I have to consciously pronounce correctly.

Let's hope Rodney Hyde doesn't achieve his dream of a right wing mayor that sells off the assets and privatises as much as possible to benefit his mates.

Wayne dinosaur brown is just a very sad joke on auckland - it will be 3 long years and I dread to think what he will do over this period.
Forget my earlier comment saying the Oxford Dictionary didn’t use macrons. Pleased to find out that I was wrong.
