It's Patricia who died-not her 'well known' business husband. I am sickened by the coverage of who she was connected to instead of focussing on the woman herself.
Exactly, I pulled back from saying he was "brown nosing" as it was an "important" business man's wife. Like is she not, even in death, a human being in her own right?
I don't think he has a sincere button, or perhaps they've forgotten to programme it. The inventors are hoping to make their next version a little closer to a real human, maybe even adding a heart and a brain.
Perhaps the inventors tried to blend two of America's best known characters and came up with a mixture of one with the size and shape of R2D2 and the compassion, sensitivity and wisdom of Trump. They certainly got it spot on. Let's hope 2.0 is a very different model.
I hadn’t realised Luxon was born in the 1950s. Why couldn’t he personally acknowledge Patricia, not her husband’s status in Auckland society. Doesn’t she have an identity? Not good enough.
Luxon's whole political adventure has been built around Americanising the game. The pre-election campaign, the bright lights and feelgood shmaltz that the US loves, showing off his Stepford family on election night and everything else Aotearoa/NZ doesn't stand for. To utter the great American condolence, "Thoughts and prayers" is about as removed from any sympathy as any real understanding he has of what those words mean. Thoughts? No luck there. Prayers? Does he know what these are?
He may have a vague idea, he went to church many years ago. A "top person" in Aussie vernacular is someone who is admired, whatever their circumstances. A top bloke or sheila. I would like to charitably think this is what Luxon meant. I must confess I have my doubts.
I wonder what our PM will say when the next NZer dies tragically overseas... I'm assuming they won't get a mention if the victim is a bottom feeder. And over-the-top gushing if they're a "top person". Feck.
What is this to do with anything? So being a "top man" he shouldn't have lost his wife in this way? Would it make violent death better if he was one of Luxon's bottom-feeders?
I doubt he's ever been much.liked, so he'll be used to it. And he's been successful in his own mind so he won't care, he'll see it as coming with the job.
I don't have a problem with him expressing sympathy, agree his wording is dreadful but what about other New Zealanders killed overseas? A Kiwi woman killed in a domestic violence incident in Australia in December. Did the PM take to Twitter with thoughts and prayers? I don't think do. Ok so he knows this family but then don't you contact personally? What a tosser he is.
I heard Luxon on the TVNZ News tonight. What he appeared to imply in the clip shown was that because he personally knew Doug, and Trish, they were great people - because he could personally vouch for that. As so often with men of a certain type, he made it all about him. He started with "I know Doug..." . Me first. And this is a central core of Luxon's persona: he really struggles to see beyond himself. His view of the world is very much from his own perspective. He has very little empathy or understanding of the lives of others. If he has personally experienced something, then this is reality. If he hasn't experienced something himself personally, then he has trouble understanding it. It is not alone in that for sure. Most privileged white men are like this in my experience. They have never had to check the price of butter at the supermarket. Every experience has to be refocused into their lived experience, to be seen as they see it. This is not what you want in a Prime Minister. It's bad enough in a mediocre CEO, but it is fatal in someone attempting to act as PM for the country. Because you are meant, as if it needed saying, to represent us all in times like this, not just yourself.
I'm afraid that Luxflakes' response was pretty much what I would have expected of him. I'm sure he will be 100% satisfied with his acknowledgement. Anyone who has a giant photo of himself on the wall at home doesn't spend a lot of time being self-critical.
He actually showed his true colours (colors) through that statement, He is a septic with an American wife, he has tossed away any bond he had with his birth country and that's the reason he has no compunction about selling every bit our country to the highest bidder. He will retire in Hawaii just as his mentor key has

Exactly my thought Jennie
Exactly. Ew.
Thoughts and prayers and let's talk about the bloke. As you said, what drivel. Surely he could have come up with just one sincere sentence?

Nick, he could drown in his own shadow, totally unfit for purpose.

RIP Patricia
The man is an utter embarrassment. Thick as two short planks.

Luxon brings new depth to the adjective ‘shallow’
Excellent description Keith. Couldn't be more precise!
^^^^^^
Thoughts and prayers for the rich husband no aroha for the poor woman and all these (brown) bottom feeders, absolutely disgusting.
"He's a top man"????

Does he really know this family?
A pompous, platitude spouting, pointless, personification of a PM.
Prick, prat, paper-thin also work with the alliteration :)
Yep a parlous, partisan, pathetic, parvenu 😁

Has he seriously got a giant picture of himself?
🤣🤣
