The right track wrong track part of the poll is also an important one to watch. 48% of ppl now think we are on the wrong track and 17% unsure. 35% think we are on the right track. That back on track thing is looking decidedly uncertain. And go the Nurses today! Stick it to the government. Irony is with that story about Hospital Support Workers job losses, part of the nurses strike is about safe staffing.

I feel so sorry for the nurses strike. So much still coming at us everyday, we getting to tired to turn out for every cause aue. We're tied up in running TPB submissions but I'd love to be able to turn out and shoe support.

And as for the loss of back room roles grrr. They cut a whole lot of our bio-security roles and regulations. And already we have a bird-flu outbreak. Coincidence? But at least we have the Groundswell high-priest Hoggard to solve it all 🙄

And yes it's him and his racist lot that have screwed our rivers, lakes and oceans for decades. ECan just went down the wrong side of history too 😪

But so relieved that the tide of public dim-wittery seems to be turning, hallelujah. Newstallk ZB and Andrea Vance notwithstanding.

Go Labour!!!!!!

Go the Greens with their much more consistent policy and willingness to put it forward. Chloe makes more sense than any of them.

Yep. We will need the Greens and TPM to hold Labour's feet to the fire. As Idiot/Savant says today at their No Right Turn blog, putting things back the way they were will not be enough.

If Hipkins is there in 2026 hopefully he will have got out of his centrist, middle lane.

Go the Left people. We need each other, and those who were conned.

Good post, I'm sure you will reach 100 likes.

Excellent Simon Wilson piece in this morning's Hereld. Less Performative & More Performance Please.

Health, what is the point of "I'm Wealthy, I'm Sorted" if you don't have good health? Next in NZ hospitals we will be seeing relatives sleeping on the foot of patient's beds to be there to take their family member to the toilet on the commode chair when necessary!

That pretty much happens now actually.

Australia's Macquarie Dictionary's word of the year is "enshittification", basically a summary of what's happening in our world. When I read about the incoming bomb of the next US Government, the nepotism and sheer stupidity offered by Trump to those whom he favours despite all the evidence against them, I despair that the "leaders of the free world" really have escaped from and are about to take over the asylum. God only knows how much damage will be done. Sadly, this approach of selection for our country's ministers reflects the Trumporian one, to some extent. Not one Coalition minister is qualified for the role they now inhabit. Many questions have also been raised about conflicts of interest, none of which have been answered satisfactorally.

It seems that, due to the cancellation of any Three Waters proposal and the lack of any infrastructure upgrading or repair over the years, we are now, in Tamakl Makaurau living in a truly "enshittificated" environment. I know Kiwis love to be world leaders in novel experiences, but this might be one we could do without. If Luxon wants to bathe in such waters, it can only be to soak up and nourish the toxicity on which he thrives.

Love your response. Wish more of our media had the guts to tell it like it is,

Thanks Anne. I noticed when TVNZ news broadcast the Q&A interview with Luxon on Sunday, there was quite a bit of "selective" editing which helped make him look like a good guy. Sort of........

Your kōrero is again uplifting - loved the ‘lose weight while you’re on fire’. I understand that cost of living concerns are very real for many, but it does seem to be leaning towards ‘me rather than we’, kindness trumped by self-centredness?

Great post Nick that underscores all of those dismal decisions this dreadful coalition have pursued. Doesn’t help much that where things are at is exactly as many predicted. Full support to Nurses and all other Health workers enduring the current unnecessary challenging times.

Great post Nick. Best news of this whole miserable year and how satisfying that the lunatics are giving it to themselves in spades. Every time I hear Luxon answer a question about his non-performance with a vacantly cheery “isn’t it great?” I lose my lunch.

Meanwhile Chris, Chloe and Debbie go from strength to strength. All the Coalition of Competence has to do now is hold the line, with reason and empathy for those whose faces are being ground into the dust, and support the front line of opposition to the trashing of our country.

Go the nurses! Is there any sector of society that isn't being impacted by this travesty of an administration? I see multitudes of future opportunities to stand up and shout the immortal words of Tim Shadbolt (not the mayoral version). “One, two, three, four, we don’t want your (capitalist, racist, ageist, sexist, ableist, transphobist) war!”

I wonder if CHICKENS will be losing their minds over lockdowns, vaccines etc and standing by intersections waving Voices For Freedumb placards paid for by overseas fascists? Will they stage a huge and insanitary 'protest' outside the Beehive alongside this country's small but imperfectly formed cadre of Nazis and confederate flag shaggers?

Of course they won't. They're chickens. That makes 'em a LOT smarter than Liz Gunn.

Just what I thought as I watched the news. At least we weren't face with mass slaughter, although you would have thought so by the hysteria.

Denial and it’s requisite bullshitery are so much easier than reality. The internet has given us a supposed media landscape to confirm our every bias however unhinged from facts and reality. So now we just treat the entirety of the world and our daily experience that way.

My son is at a medical conference today and tomorrow. Reti and Levy are keynote speakers. My son thought wouldn't it be great to set them up in the stocks and throw rotten vegetables at them.
