So, Cameron Luxton previously Clark, devious and manipulative from day one, and ACT reject Casey Costello! How many more unsavoury people have made it into to swollen ranks of blue? Putty for Collins to mould, toxic company for bed leg basher and animal neglecting farmer. Ugh!
Thanks Nick. Your column is among those from left wing commentators that I have looked to for solace and encouragement to continue to fight the good fight.
I just had the misfortune to hear the tail end of a bFM interview with the esteemed (in his own recognition) Dr Shane Reti, who managed, when asked what he saw as a future for us all, came up with how "privileged" he was to be voted in "by the good people of Whangarei" and to represent them in "Auckland er no, Wellington", and a few slogans.
Unfortunately, a pre-recorded iv because I immediately stopped my car and texted for them to ask if he planned to privatise health to get some of the health outcomes he'd been campaigning on.
We'll find out in the fullness of time, no doubt. Get your protest boots and hats on, folks, we're going to need them!
I hear you Jacqueline because I for one was definitely NOT one of the 'Good people of Whangarei' & if he thinks he's going to shaft the rebuild of our 'sewage down the walls hospital' for his 4 lane highway to Hell I mean Tauranga then I too will be protesting. Fuck him & his ambulance he thought was ok to travel around in without any consent from patients needing their service.
Thanks too Nick for your humour during these dark days. We need every chuckle we can get.
So funny. I remember induction day. And then once the writs were done off somewhere on a bus (I think to the GG's house). I particularly recall Chris Auchinvole who won the West Coast seat for a term, his lovely posh accent and his dear wifey. I just don't think Maureen Pugh will be able to compete with that memory. All these hopeful MPs are about to find that being a backbencher in government, or in opposition means nothing. I could almost feel sorry for them.
Here's to the next four hundred. It's well worth the price of the sub to have such brilliant writing. Keep it up ,I have a feeling we will need it ........
Wow there are sure some numpties arriving to "mend our divided country and to get us back on track." I am truly gobsmacked that we have been delivered this bunch of losers because things will not get better from here. Thanks for providing us with your views Nick just wish I had been around for the first 300 posts and so pleased I found you.
Not an honest bone between them. Already duplicitous! Integrity? What does that mean? The new Government asked! All looking like the cat that swallowed the canary. Yes welcome back to the 1950s. That fictional era where everything was seemingly perfect.
Ch, Ch, Ch Changes all around us & what does it all mean??? The 1st thing I noticed was my Substack subscription to Nick's Korero abruptly ended without notice & I was sent to Never Never, Ever Land to find out why, which I never found out, but ended up with a feeling that that was all by design that I needed to walk over hot coals to find out what happened to my Subscription with Oogledi Google somehow flipping the Substack switches for Subscribers on & off, as a sign that I wasn't supposed to agree with the daily Korero's, so off I went to find out WTF was WTF???
My first stop was writing Substack to remind them I was a paid monthly subscriber to one of their Writers Stable pages & WTF about my not being able to comment on my paid subscription page?? That didn't go so well, as I was sent to Oogle di Goggle di for an access code that was supposed to be my "get out of Jail Free Card" once the email code arrived, but didn't arrive after not two, not 3, but 4 times, when I finally gave up & headed to town for my CT Scan at Nelson Hospital.
Something must have clicked in the Big Googledi Gears, as by the time I arrived at the Hospital, my comment rights had been restored.
Kinda weird, but at least I could re read yesterdays Korero & be able to make a comment on it. The receipt for my monthly subscription appeared directly under Nick's Page, that had mysteriously appeared out of the Ether. Hmmm, well, ok, but I was so gobsmacked from the weekends results & how Greedy & Self interested we were that we elected a Bunch of Neo-Fascists to run the country into the ground over the coming next 3 years all I wanted to do was go back home to bed..
My mouth wouldn't move, my fingers just fidgeted & I got a taste of pure Bile in my throat that came close to making me sick for a moment as I weighed up the results & wondered when we had all sleep walked off a Cliff into a Money Pit & lost every bit of good judgement we might have one day possessed prior to the Neoliberal Capitalists Ram Raid on our once Social Democracy!!
I was truly lost for words!
I had a short chat with the wonderful Nurse that prepped me for the CT Scan about the Weekends Tragic events. She was a 20 something young professional Radiology Nurse with a lifetime Career ahead of her until last weekend. Now she's wondering what it costs to fly to Aussie...
She had gone for a Tramp on the Hefe over the weekend with 5 other Nurse Mates & was still buzzing from learning Saturdays results when she got back Sunday night.
The group was evenly split down the middle in the Colour Codes represented. She thought that was pretty wierd how any Self respecting Woman, or Man Nurse would have voted Blue & possibly voted them all out of their Careers, Nursing in NZ. She looked me in the eye and almost burst into tears at the question of "How could we have done this to ourselves"? Neither one of us had an answer for this Sci Fi Movie / Horror Show thing we just witnessed.
I went through the Automaton Machine wondering how, or where we had all gone wrong & elected Atilla the Huns 1st Cousin? No answer came to mind, I was blankety blank in a kinda daze as I waited afterward for my Nurse friend to come back & take the Line out of my arm, so I could go.
We didn't exchange any dialogue as she unlined me. I asked her how I got out of this place that I had walked 350 degrees around to find an unlocked door to go through to get in - now I wanted out & needed some advice on where to find an unlocked door on that end of the building, so I didn't need to repeat the 350 degree walk about again to get out. She smiled & said, follow me! We walked about 10 steps to the door next to the CT Scan Lab, she waived her magic Card & the door opened up about 30 meters from where I parked. Mission accomplished!!
I was a bit wobbly after the trip through the Automaton & still had to stop for groceries on the way back home. The trip felt surreal to me.
It seemed that everybody driving around me weren't paying much attention at all to the Road & were doing a Lane Dance without indicators all the way to Richmond, from Nelson Hospital. People were driving either 30Kmph, or 300Kmph.
I got to Stick Man Central in Richmond at the Mall, still shakin a bit from the drive, only to find that somehow the Earth had stopped and people were just standing around staring at stuff!!!
I saw a car backin out of a spot in front of Pak a Slave, so I pulled over slightly & indicated I was gonna turn into the spot she was leaving, but she got half way out of the Parking Space & Froze like a Possum in the headlights. I don't know what happened, but she sat there for a full minute & a half before collecting her senses and finally heading toward the Exit.
Inside it was the same story. Lots of people just staring off into space as if Tranced Silly. I got my things quickly & checked out with another Nice Young Lady Checkout Clerk. We got to chatting a bit about how it felt like the Twilight Zone & did she notice anything weird about today like I had?
She responded just like the Nice Nurse at Nelson Hospital had. "I think everybody's in Shock from the weekends Election Results and nobody knows how to act right now"! We giggled, I paid and left to navigate my way home over the freshly Shingled Highway between Richmond & Motueka.
On the way, the speed limits were all reduced to 50 from the fresh Shingle spread on the Roads, but that really didn't slow folks down much at all. I pulled up 4 times to let Truckies go past me spraying tiny Windscreen Killers in all directions, so, swearing under my Breath, I let them go past because I don't have Glass Cover.
I started wondering when the Spaceships would arrive & where they might land when they did? Right on your House you low life worthless eater, now get back to work, or we'll cut off your Pension...I recognised that Squeaky, Fingernails on the Chalkboard Voice in the back of my head that answered me.
I'm still working on a decent response to yesterday's "People Have Spoken" Korero because yesterday just went over my head like it never really happened... I think I found a Time Warp??...
Anybody else feel what hit us yesterday???? Curious minds want to know....at least mine does!
Interesting points, and I certainly think many people are feeling like Aucklanders on the day after their mayoral election - "Oh, no! I just meant it to be a protest vote!". Your line "I was truly lost for words" gave me the best giggle of the day.
Well my sister and I have commiserated several times since saturday. I had to phone a couple of roofing companies yesterday as water ran down an internal wall in my lounge, and there were plops as water came through the ceiling in three different places. The first roofing firm I rang I was told they wouldn't be able to even look at my roof for at least two months - I'm expecting to get those sorts of comments from other roofers. As I talked with the very nice woman who answered the phone and explained to her that "the makesafe "organised by my insurance co. was no longer "safe". The building company they had employed to look at my roof had reattached the butynol cover of my roof with sandbags that have lasted a very short period of time , and clearly the sandbags had dried out, and some had come off in the strong winds we had last week. Now the butynol layer will have moved ain exposing leaks underneath. I made a comment-too much on top ofthe election result. Surprisingly the roofer lady agreed, and in the end we had a conversation about how sad it was that Labour had kept us safe through covid-her words- and haven't really had a clear run to implement change. So- people out there are not happy with the election result.
In spite of my desire to avoid being mean to anyone, I was unable to resist noting in the comments section on Luxon's dreadful interview this morning how ratty he was getting with the poor innocent journalists. He just can't stand being challenged, because he's accustomed to everyone saying "Yes Sir, yes Sir, three bags full Sir".
Thanks Nick for the great music, and your wry humour. Josie Pagani really is a piece of work- she particularly put the boot in to Jacinda. Completely denigrated her, and her work as PM. So envious.of Jacinda.Had to pull er down. !!!Not only did Josie not get a good list place with Labour, Jacinda did not call on her as an advisor. She had been an advisor to Helen Clark.

Wow! Dr Gaurav Sharma is even more of a vindictive a-hole than I realised.
The Keys are just true to form.
Sad to see the son so damaged by his upbringing.

Thanks Nick :). Loved the description of media's commentary on the new government changing from lions to pussy cats :D.
Thanks Nick good to see you’ve still got the energy to write this morning!

With the exception of a nice salary to lessen the pain.....
Congratulations Nick
What a mile stone
