I so hope Kamala wins and the orange man just disappears. However, sadly I concede your summary is correct. So fingers crossed the voters are sensible
😭
In relation to Seymour, yeah sadly I don’t think there is a level he wouldn’t sink to. However, releasing the information before the proposed day and activation, I think is just premature (ejaculation?) 😳
Seymour is so focussed on himself, he doesn’t recognise the existence and strength of finding other ways to overcome. More stupidity and selfishness will create better and stronger reactions elsewhere. Toitu Te Tiriti 😀
Law is for all of us so we should know what is happening and have the chance to be involved. The implication Seymour makes here is that its about him and his mates and how tricky he can be. How could the Waitangi Tribunal not let people know of his 'plot'.
Someone said to me the other day, 'the Americans will get the president they deserve'. I'm not sure this is true, but my question would be how do we stop the rot world wide? How can sanity and commonsense win against these determined and quite evil in some cases people. I don't know the answer but I hope someone comes up with one soon or we are all fckd.
Yeah you got it Nick. I have never felt as anxious about a US election as this one - perhaps because my kids live and vote over there having become dual citizens. Luckily, they live in California and I hope it secedes if Trump wins! On Gaza, it's complicated. US has the second largest Jewish population after Israel. My son's in-laws are Jewish and Trump supporters (well at least they were). It is a very tetchy subject. That part of the world has been hell ever since the Balfour declaration and I blame the British for that. At home, my brother just sponsored the family of his son-in-law from Lebanon to come to NZ - whose village was bombed to fek. My niece's grave is on the border. Not making excuses and I hope if Harris wins, people keep on protesting and fighting for change in American foreign policy - because the fight never ends with an election. Mind you, if Trump wins, Putin will walk all over Ukraine and all hell will break loose in Europe and nothing will change in Palestine. May we all keep sane today and tonight. I will be trying. On Seymour - little shit. I see parliament has an extended sitting this morning so CoC can ram through more legislation.
Here's hoping the anger and the votes of the women of America saves the country and her democracy and finally exorcises that vile con man, rapist and criminal from her politics for good.
Hard to become excited about anything emanating from America these days. There is an in built Gerrymander in American politics that gives disproportionate weight to states with very low populations over larger ones. This ultimately dictates the overall electoral college results and has seen Republican presidents elected in recent times that goes against the popular vote. Then again if a Presidency outcome is on a knife edge between a female articulate, intelligent longstanding member of the judiciary process and an ignorant, racist, misogynist, privileged self centred man-boy doesn't this tell us everything we need to know about America?
👍Correct - the "Electoral College" giving outsized power to smaller states is anti-democratic & would need more states to pass a constitutional amendment to require the winner of the NATIONAL polular vote to be awarded the STATE electoral vote, but most of the swing states like their outsized power so ⁉️ (they only need a referendum of state voters I believe, whereas for a FEDERAL constitutional amendment to pass is a massive undertaking 🤷) John Oliver just did a piece on what effect this has on voter suppression in places like California - why bother voting when your hundreds of millions of voters only get such a small say in the Presidential vote🤔
Good summary Nick. I too have fingers crossed that a huuuuge turnout will bring an uncontestable victory for Kamala. I also hope that Senate and Congress is in the safe® hands of the Democrats as any other situation may bring the Supreme Court into play… Helen Reddy would have been a great contender too, if a tad Australian
As of now I'm shutting down all incoming info, I'll read about it morrow. As my son, who's worked over there says " the whole place and it's people are bat-shit crazy, even in normal times"
Yes I have always felt that common sense will prevail in USA. I believe many Republicans will vote for Kamala but have felt too imitated to express their opinions. I have a friend living in Wisconsin who is an avid Kamala fan. She has her fingers crossed for a democratic win but lives in fear if Trump wins or loses.
I remember reading an article decades ago (early '80s?) about the fall of civilisations, and the prediction that the West / USA would collapse in the late 2020s. I'd scoffed at the time, but Holy Sh*t, they may have been right on the money - more so if The Orange One gets to be the head of his own Parade again.
It’s not only the USA that will have dire consequences, eh. The outcome will affect us all.
Another scenario to add to Bob’s. Trump wins, is ousted for incompetence to lead, Vance takes over the presidency and and an even worse shit show occurs 😥
💯Been saying that for months... The rich racist greedy anti-labour etc. back-room backers of Vance since getting him elected to the Senate had THIS as their plan 😱- wonder if they didn't expect him to be in the running so fast & he may have destroyed his future credibility if (🤞🤞🤞fingers crossed) Trump loses, and especially if loses badly.🤔 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Thanks for a great piece. I am also disappointed that Kamala hasn't spoken up about Gaza. I am hoping it was mainly because she didn't want to alienate the Jewish vote and if she manages to secure the White House she will act and deal with Israel...
Yes. I think it is the most likely reason. Once in the White House I believe her commentary would change, albeit gradually, and she will be far more forceful with Netanyahu and co. than Biden has been.
The greatest joy for me today would be for Kamala to win by an indisputable margin. That's part one. Part two would be to see the Orange One's sneering smirk slowly fade and disintegrate, along with his ego, as the reality hits home he's been beaten by a woman. A coloured one. I imagine what would be left of Trump would crawl home to Mar a Lago, hide under a rock and never show his bitter, ugly self in public again. That alone would be enough for Kamala to achieve in her presidential term 😁😁😁
As always, you have nailed the anxious helplessness of bystanders watching a train wreck in slow motion, holding our breath and hoping for the better of two bad outcomes.

He’s blaming the news getting out on the Waitangi Tribunal and scolding them for disrespecting him. 🤨🙄

PS Seymour has all the cunning of a sewer rat!

How fitting that Trumps karma is in the hands of women voters.

Yep, I'm hoping for a Kamala win.
As of now I'm shutting down all incoming info, I'll read about it morrow. As my son, who's worked over there says " the whole place and it's people are bat-shit crazy, even in normal times"
Yes. I'm going to try to do the same thing at least until this evening. Like the other commentators, a Trump win scares the shit out of me.

We were in the US in 2016. Our host allayed our fears that Trump would win, saying Americans weren’t stupid 🤦♀️

Actually thinking this might be the plan. Scary

Maybe any state where the popular vote is subverted by the electoral system, (USA, Great Brutain,) can no longer be called democracies.
I'm very much Schrödinger's cat on ths one. Both alive and dead at the same time.
